OKC Kills Tulsa in Sports

Tulsa versus OKC:

Entertainment, a push. Scenery, us. Leadership (downtown boom, American Idol auditions, etc.), them. Culture, us. Malls, us. Tornadoes, them.

Sports, OKC massacres us, thanks to the Thunder.

Believe it or not, OKC is going for the NBA title!

It still seems like science fiction, Hooterville gone legit.

True: The Thunder has only beaten two dogs, the over-the-hill gang, Dallas, with Dirk Noshotski sleepwalking his way through the season, and guard Kidd turning 60 years of age, or something close. Then the Thunder stomped the LA Fakers and the worst set of guards in recent NBA playoff history. The Faker coach is a joke, stationing a seven-foot guy by the center stripe. Kobe is aging fast. Without two or three blockbuster trades, this franchise is in ruin.

Also true: You can't blame a team for winning.

The Spur-Thunder series looks like one of the best ever. Losing the home wood and yahoo edge late in the season will prove costly.

In other NBA news, Blake Griffin needs to learn how to play basketball with more skills and less brute force. He is a thunder-dunker at home.
But he is terrible on defense and gets only the rebounds that bounce to him.

Spurs in the full seven.

I think what bothers me about the Thunder is that Tulsa people try to hone in on their success and claim them as ours.

This just in Tulsa: THE THUNDER BELONGS TO OKLAHOMA CITY, NOT TULSA!

I give OKC full credit for this boon of a success that is the Thunder, but I wish Tulsans would back off and let OKC do their thing. This isn't a Tulsa team, this isn't Oklahoma's team, if it was, they'd be named the Oklahoma Thunder.

As it is, they are the Oklahoma City Thunder and I wish them the best.

The state government of Oklahoma ponied up with tax breaks and financial guarantees for the Thunder, so the whole state has a right to claim an interest in the team. If the owners had a sense of decency, they would have named the team the Oklahoma Thunder.

It even sounds better.

Yeah but I live in Oklahoma so I claim the Thunder, adopted or not.

I bet you wear OU stuff and never attended classes there, either. Bandwagoner.

GolderHurricane is right! Two years ago, I remember hearing J. Klein tell the 97.1 guys..."Tulsa is NOT a Sports-supporter town;we're just not..."

correction: it was 1430 "The Buzz".

When the Oklahoma Legislature approved the payroll-tax rebate, estimated at $60 million over 15 years, then all Oklahomans have a vested interest, not just OKC.

When it comes to sports, Tulsa has turned into the sticks. Golden H, what's with Tulsa's new conference of teams about to start football?

I can remember when OKC lost 3 CHL hockey teams in the 1970s and 1980s due to lack of attendance...amazing how they can sell out for NBA basketball.

From what I heard, Tulsa had a chance to get a "AAA" type hockey team and turned it down. It is sad that all Tulsa can get is a AA baseball team and a WNBAA team. Pretty d@m# pathetic!!
