The Editor's Desk was on the move this week, taking the driving tour of the Southwest and Midwest.

On Tuesday, I got the chance to visit the Sooner Appreciation Luncheon at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman. Bob Stoops briefly addressed a gathering of donors and media.

The phrase that got my attention: "It's about time." That was Stoops' follow up after saying the Sooners were ready to win another BCS title.

OU coaches are confident. Does it help? Well, it can't hurt.

Stoops also said he hopes his players return for fall practice in good condition. They'll have a way to go to match their coach, who played 18 holes in 110-plus degree heat Tuesday. His only comment about the weather -- he appreciated the breeze that stirred the hot air around the course.

Another treat Tuesday was meeting with OU Varsity "O" Association Executive Director Joe Washington. "Little Joe" is a legend around my hometown, as is his father Joe Washington Sr., one of the best-known coaches in the history of Southeast Texas high school football.

Washington talked about tagging along with his father and meeting some of the greats in the high school coaching game. He said one of the reasons he signed with OU out of Port Arthur (Texas) Lincoln High School was because he had seen so much of Texas traveling with his father.

How cool is Washington? He braved Tuesday's wicked weather in slacks and a sports coat. And you never saw him sweat a drop.

I also got the chance to visit Kansas City last weekend. The trip included a Sporting KC game and tour of Livestrong Park, the MLS team's new home.

The stadium is definitely an eye opener. Each custom chair in the home locker room cost $4,000.

Speaking of chairs, the stadium seats more than 18,000 fans for soccer -- with all but a few thousand of those seats chairbacks.

Only two of those seats aren't Sporting KC blue. One, in the Victory Suite, is yellow in honor of Livestrong patriarch Lance Armstrong. The other, in the suite of team owner and OSU graduate Neal Patterson, is orange in honor of his alma mater.

I've wondered about tulsa seeking an mls team. It seems there would be more fan support for that in this region than what there is for arena football, hockey or wnba which are proving to be niche sports that few in this area have an interest in seeing.

That doesn't seem likely. The cost of building a new stadium would be prohibitive. The Arena Football and WNBA teams are definitely finding it a tough market.
