OSU Avoids Total Disaster

Oklahoma State’s trip to Kansas wasn’t a total disaster.
The Cowboys did win.
But, it was closer to a disaster than OSU coach Mike Gundy wants to admit.
OSU blew a 20-0 lead with bad defense in the fourth quarter but eventually was able to run out the clock on a 20-14 victory that leaves the Cowboys with a lot of questions.
Could OSU really be this bad?
Probably not. The Cowboys were lousy against the Jayhawks. That sometimes happens on the road, especially on a team with a lot of younger players. They don’t yet understand the urgency to play well, especially when you are on the road against a Big 12 team you should beat.
Still, OSU’s offense was so average the Cowboys had to put the game in the hands of their defense. The way OSU has played defense the past few years that’s never a good idea.
Oklahoma State won because Kansas doesn’t know how to win games. The Jayhawks roughed OSU’s punter on a play that allowed the Cowboys to run out of the clock.
J.W. Walsh, who played well against Texas, was average at best againt Kansas. One now has to wonder about Texas’ defense. Could Kansas actually have a better defense than Texas? Not out of the question given what has happened to Texas the past two weeks.
The prelims are now out of the way for Oklahoma State. There is no one left on the schedule as bad as Kansas.
OSU is capable of playing much better than it did at KU. To win games, the Cowboys will have play better.
We’re expecting to see a different OSU when Iowa State visits Stillwater in the next game.
If not, OSU is in for a big fall.
