OSU Needs a Season-Turning Win

I've seen a lot of football games in the past 30 years as a sports writer in Oklahoma and Texas.
I'm often reminded how little the difference is between winning and losing. OSU is this year's example of a team that finds itself just a play or two away from something much bigger.
Sometimes, a few little things will snowball into something much bigger and worse.
That's what OSU coach Mike Gundy must guard against starting this week against Nebraska.
The Cowboys are pretty close to being pretty good. They have an excellent offense. Even with starting quarterback Bobby Reid on the bench for nearly three quarters against Texas A&M, the Cowboys had more than enough offense with backup Zac Robinson to beat Texas A&M.
Instead, the Cowboys made a few mistakes on defense, a season-long problem, and the reality is 4-3 instead of 6-1.
In fact, it wouldn't take much much for the Cowboys to be sitting there unbeaten.
Now, the fear is OSU giving up on the season. That happens to teams that repeatedly suffer bad breaks.
Kansas is probably in that mode now. The Jayhawks have blown late leads and lost its last three games to Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Baylor.
Gundy says the Cowboys, so young and inexperienced, are also resilient. If so, OSU still remains a bowl possibility.
But they'll need some leadership from their coach and something good to happen to make this something more than a season that ends Thanksgiving weekend.
