OSU, Soup Nazi, Batman, Bionic Woman converging in Austin

How big is Oklahoma State’s game against Texas?

It’s so big that people are flocking to Austin from a galaxy far, far away.

In addition to hosting one of the most meaningful football games in OSU’s history (the Cowboys are in contention for their first league title since the Bicentennial), Austin also will host a Wizard World pop culture convention Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And what that means is you won’t have to go to Sixth Street to spot a wacky character.

Among guests scheduled to appear at the Austin Convention Center are Batman and Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward), the Incredible Hulk (Lou Ferrigno), the Six Million Dollar Man (Lee Majors), the Bionic Woman (Lindsay Wagner), Buck Rogers (Gil Gerard and Erin Gray), a Ghostbuster (Ernie Hudson), Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), Darth Maul (Ray Park), the Soup Nazi (Larry Thomas) and Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams).

Maybe one or more of them will show up at the game. Maybe (but I doubt it) OSU coach Mike Gundy will ask the Soup Nazi (of “Seinfeld” fame) to address his team before the game. The Cowboys would love to be able to say “no soup for you” to the Longhorns, who have beaten O-State every year since 1997.

Gundy said he used to watch “Batman” reruns on TV and he recalled that sound effects (“pow!) appeared on the screen whenever Batman socked a bad guy. Stay tuned to see if the Cowboys can deliver a “pow!” moment Saturday night.

If OSU fans want to experience both pads popping and pop culture, they can scope out convention details at wizardworld.com. And if you see someone who appears to be Wonder Woman or Darth Vader on Sixth Street, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need your eyes checked.

Sounds like an awesome atmosphere. Curious to see what the fan cam shows during time outs.
