OSU exceeds 48,000 mark in season-ticket sales

Adam Barnes is about to dine on a steak dinner.

Oklahoma State’s director of sales and marketing, Barnes was the only member of the university staff to predict a total of 48,000 for football season-ticket sales.

As of Tuesday, Barnes’ prediction became reality. At the end of the business day, the total stood at 48,006. As a reward, athletic director Mike Holder had promised a steak feast for Barnes.

The 48,006 figure is significant because the seating capacity of old Lewis Field was 48,000. OSU now has sold more season tickets than there were seats at the pre-renovation stadium.

“Adam Barnes is the only guy who will step out there and make a prediction,” Holder said in August. “ . . . He went out there on a limb with a big prediction.”

OSU now has broken school records both for overall season-ticket sales and for student season-ticket sales. The current student total is 11,950. The old records of 45,952 overall and 11,385 on student sales were set in 2009.

Before 2009, OSU had never reached the 40,000 mark in season-ticket sales.

Current ticket-sales data indicates that for the Oct. 8, non-televised Kansas game, there could be a crowd in excess of 57,000. If the attendance is 57,000-plus, it would be the second-largest crowd in program history. The attendance record is 58,516, set for the 2009 Texas game. No. 2 on the list is 56,901 for the 2009 Grambling State contest.

It will be some ignorant crack about how there hasn't been a sell out yet under Mike Holder. As if that ONE thing somehow erases all the records that have been set in attendance, revenue, season ticket sales, POSSE membership and donations since Holder took over.

Basically picture Snooky from Jersey Shore trying to make a point about how poor of job Mike Holder has done. Then dial the dumb up a few notches and you'll be there.

Capacity is 60,218. Maybe selling some single-game tickets would assist in reaching that mark. One would think that the fans would fill it up for a top ten team every contest if they were available.

Plenty of single game tickets are sold Greybeard.... so don't you worry your pretty little head about it. At the time of the season opener the season ticket sales were about 47,000 but there were over 54,000 people there. Crowd for the KU games is probably going to be over 57,000 which would put it in second all time.

Anybody who has a clue knows that the atmosphere in Stillwater is lacking in nothing now. There isn't hardly a seat to be had in the bleacher section of the BPS and all the club seats are sold. The only space available is pretty much in the luxury suites.

But we all appreciate you once again pointing out to all us poor little OSU fans why we shouldn't be as proud and happy as we are about our team and university. I'm just surprised it took you 8 hours to think up a crack about the capacity of BPS.
