Each of Oklahoma State's first four home crowds of the 2009 season ranks among the school's all-time top 10 in football attendance.
OSU has set a school record for season-ticket sales (45,685 as of Monday). The Cowboys also are on course to smash the school record for average attendance. Through four games, the average is 53,148. The record of 48,254 was set last season.
"We've done much better on season tickets than projected, and we've done better on walk-up sales," athletic director Mike Holder said.
Season-ticket sales are up nearly 6,000 over last year's record total. Revenue generated from football ticket sales is used to fund the operation of all OSU sports and the athletic department.
Last week, a school-record crowd of 56,901 saw 14th-ranked OSU defeat Grambling State 56-6. The Sept. 5 victory over Georgia drew the second-largest crowd (53,012), the Sept. 19 win over Rice drew the fourth-largest (51,803) and the Sept. 12 loss to Houston drew the 10th-largest (50,875).
A crowd of more than 58,000 is expected for the Oct. 31 Texas game at Boone Pickens Stadium. As of last week, OSU already had sold nearly 57,000 tickets for the Texas-OSU showdown.
