Three items related to Oklahoma State basketball:
--OSU signee Markel Brown of Peabody Magnet School in Alexandria, La., was named by the Louisiana Sports Writer Association as the Class 4A player of the year.
“Any time you win an award, it’s an honor,” Smith told the Alexandria newspaper. “But winning it in Class 4A -- I think that’s the toughest class of basketball in Louisiana. It’s so hard to even get to the Top 28 in Class 4A, so, to me, it’s a real honor.”
Brown, a 6-foot-5 inch guard, led his team to a 41-0 state championship season and his coach, Charles Smith, was named the 4A coach of the year. Brown averaged 32 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks as a senior.
--Kansas video coordinator Kyle Keller, who served as an OSU basketball assistant under Eddie Sutton and Sean Sutton, is among five people interviewing next week for the head coaching vacancy at Pittsburg State University in Kansas, according to a Pittsburg Morning Sun report.
Keller’s interview is scheduled for Wednesday. He is trying to win a job formerly held by Gene Iba, nephew of OSU coaching icon Henry Iba.
--OSU basketball coach Travis Ford will do the state of the union thing when he participates in a season wrap-up session early next week with reporters who regularly cover the team. Got a question you want him to be asked? Speak now or forever hold your peace.
