OU-Nebraska... Let the final countdown begin
Published: 11/28/2010 11:11 AM

Dirk Chatelain of the Omaha World-Herald got the jump on Big 12 Championship Week late last night/early this morning. He pounded out "12 reasons to watch" Oklahoma vs. Nebraska not long after the Sooners' wild Bedlam win had been booked.

Chatelain touted the tasty matchup of Ryan Broyles vs. Husker DBs Prince Amukamara and Alfonzo Dennard.

He revisited Landry Jones' worst game as OU's quarterback -- his 5-interception disaster at Nebraska last year -- and wondered how he would play coming off one of his best performances.

He hit on drama points. There's the potential for Bo Pelini to spontaneously combust on the sideline. The anti-Nebraska "good luck your new conference" officiating conspiracy hatched after the Huskers' loss at Texas A&M. The delicious possibility that Big 12 commish Dan Beebe could have to present Pelini the conference championship trophy as a parting gift.

And, of course, Chatelain touched on the history behind one of college football's great series, a tradition that will fall asleep for a while after Saturday night's game.

"Forget Texas and the Big 12. Forget TV contracts and backroom deals and conspiracies. Blow the dust off your history books to a cleaner time. Embrace Nebraska and Oklahoma for the last time," Chatelain wrote. "Remember Tom and Barry, Billy Sims and Mike Rozier, the Selmon brothers and Johnny the Jet. Remember the Game of the Century and Sooner Magic.

"Let the nostalgia ooze. Nebraska and Oklahoma put the Big Eight Conference on the map. Saturday night, they'll take the Big 12 off of it."

'Ol Dirk hit the nail on the head. It was destiny for OU to play Nebraska. OSU had their chance vs. Nebraska and blew it.
