OU Versus OSU: Early Match-Ups

Here is a breakdown of the big game.
True, OU has to go to Baylor. But Baylor has no defense and is apt to draw a crowd of around 8,000.
OU-OSU:
Quarterbacks: If the OSU thrower could lose a few years, he'd be a number one draft pick. If he wants to play pro ball, doesn't he have to leave after this year? The OU quarterback gets nervous away from home. Considerable edge, OSU.
Runners: Murray is battered. OU's freshman apparently isn't trusted with much on the road. Edge, OSU.
Receivers: Superior players are all over the field on both sides. Tie.
Offensive line: Both pass block very well. Slight edge OSU.
Defense: They're still open. OSU is improving. Slight edge OSU.
Kicking: Off the charts edge to OSU.
Intangibles: Home field, wildest home crowd ever, edge OSU.
Coaching: Stoops trumps Gundy. But the coordinator challenges are no contest. Venables hasn't stopped anybody any good in a decade. Wilson goes into a shell away from home. Is there enough money in Pickensville to keep the offensive coordinator? The defense is improving weekly. Edge OSU.
Early prediction: No school in Stillwater Monday the 29th.

Why such a change of heart Picker? Last week you didn't even pick OSU to cover the spread against the Longhorns.

Pick, I like the way you think!
Holgorsen and Young trump Venables and Wilson. OSU's team complements each phase and seem to be really meshing now. OU has already peaked (Iowa State) while OSU still has two more weeks to continue to improve.

I like OU in that contest. Turnovers will be the key and maybe a little "Sooner Magic". Both defences are easily confused so it will probably be a high scoring, close game.

Wow, I realize the Pick and all the other aggies in NE Oklahoma have been waiting for a while for OSU to be the favorite, the better team, etc... but you dont really believe it's gonna be as easy as the old Pick would lead you to believe?? Stoops and the boys usually react pretty good when in the underdog role. The fact it seldom happens says alot about the OU program...I wouldnt bet against OU in 2 weeks... but I might take the Baylor Bears this week. OU tends to overlook people sometimes...

dcood: I agree, and am really concerned when people start talking about OSU beating OU. It hasn't happened often, but this is the best team OSU has ever had. They should be 10-1 going into Bedlam. And OU does seem vulnerable, but they still have a lot of talented players and, well, they are still OU. So I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that the scoreboard will tell me that OSU has won after the game is over.
But What Do I Know?

What the heck is "Sooner Magic"?

Sooner Magic is what Switzer dialed up.
But What Do I Know?

Oh yeah, now I remember.

Yeah those OU coordinators are terrible. Never mind the fact that the same coordinators have now beaten OSU seven consecutive times. But I guess that's all Stoops. By the way Picker I suggest you take a look at the defensive statistics before you proclaim the greatness of Bill Young.

Also, I can't believe someone above said that this is the best team that OSU has ever had. You must be about 18 years old. It's not even freaking close.

mgsooner - most of the yards/points that OSU has given up have came in the 4th quarter when the second/third team is playing. Do a little resarch.....

This could be OSU's year. After all, they get one ever 7 or 8 years or so. Although, I have seen them dissapoint their fans more times than they have beaten OU. Somehow they just seem to have a knack for choaking and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Beating OU and Tex in the same year!!! It must be icing up in hell.

I like that OSU's having a great season and all, but who have they beaten? That argument gets thrown against Boise and TCU all the time. But the same could go for OSU. Let's see: a terrible Washington St team; a team from the Belt; overrated Tulsa; inconsistent A&M team; Louisiana school of the blind; a terrible Tech team; inconsistent/overrated Kansas State; completely overrated Baylor team (how in the world did they get into the top 25?); and a terrible Texas team. The lone legit Top 25 team they lost to and made Martinez look like Peyton Manning...

Oh, I thought Switzer was dialing probation officers and fur coat salesmen.
I think the Baylor game will be very telling. If OU goes out and finally plays a solid game on the road, then Bedlam will be a tough battle. If the Sooners lay another egg, Oklahoma State could make it ugly.
I will say that Cowboy fans should really hope for a healthy Murray in the backfield for OU -- they definitely don't want to be the coming out party for that Sooner freshman.

TJNEELY, yeah because OU never ever chokes in big games, right? Absurd.
Mgsooner, OSU's defensive numbers are skewed because of the type of offense. Take a look at what OSU did to Texas for proof. The score was 33-3 until the 4th quarter when OSU started putting in backups. As Pick said, this young defense gets better each week.
It doesn't surprise me to see sooner fans already taking cover behind the old "they're due to win one every 7 or 8 years" card. I'm sure this will be followed by a series of past accomplishments and how great OU used to be.

I'm just trying to figure out how I am going to be able to DVR the game, and then make it home to watch without hearing/seeing any spoilers.

Go with OU. This is right in Stoops' wheelhouse. A game that seems like it's important but really isn't in the grand scheme of things. Win, play in the Cotton Bowl. Lose play in the Weedeater Bowl. Same difference.
MexiMike

Freeballnit, are you joking? Do you really want to make this comparison?
OSU defeated the same A&M team that beat OU.
OSU soundly defeated a Texas team in Austin that OU barely beat at a neutral site.
OU also barely beat a 4-6 Utah State team at home, barely beat a 3-6 Cincinatti at a neutral site, and barely beat the always monsterous Air Force team at home.
In fact, the only decent win they have had was against FSU who has recently lost to UNC and NC State.
The two above average teams they've played they've lost to.
All done here.

This is OSU's game to lose and they control their own destiny with regards to the Big 12 championship. OU traditionally has close games in Stillwater but still wins.

There was once a time when the guys taking the field against Oklahoma wearing Aggie Orange just KNEW they would lose, no matter how fired up or talented they might be, and no matter the venue. Oklahoma won an absurd number of times and it was clearly psychological. But today, OSU is fielding a team that is actually, remarkably, believing in themselves; yeah, these guys believe they can beat Oklahoma and they expect to do so...just like the Sooners once did in the pre-Bob, pre-Blake, pre-Schnelly, pre-Gary days...the days when the crimson and cream could go into Lincoln and snatch a ridiculously unlikely victory from the gaping jaws of defeat in sub-zero temps buffeting by arctic winds. Stoops once proved himself a remarkable defensive coordinator; since that day, he has proven himself a mediocre head coach, much the same way John Blake was a wonderful line coach but an abysmal failure in the top spot. Will Switzeresque Sooner Magic reappear in Stillwater in two weeks? Geez, I'd love to think so. But don't count on it.
mgsooner

Stoops has proven himself to be a "mediocre head coach"??? LMAOOOO. I have heard it all now. If Stoops is a mediocre head coach then every single other coach in the conference must be abysmal and for that matter 98% of Div 1 coaches must be abysmal. The guy has won a national title and 6 conferences titles. He has played in 4 BCS title games. How many other coaches in the ENTIRE COUNTRY can say that? Get some freaking perspective, moron.
