OU Versus Thunder
Published: 6/7/2012 4:01 PM

As if getting clubbed by OSU wasn't enough, numerous OU fans are irate over the possibility of being shuffled back in historical importance by the emergence of the OKC Thunder.

With the Thunder's best player being a former Texas Longhorn!

The prideful question is this: If the Thunder wins the NBA title, which is more noteworthy, that, or an OU national championship at football.

The NBA title would seem to have a slight edge in at least structure, as this sport's champ is determined by a tournament, not a vote.

How about this: The most recent championship winner is deemed to be the most important.

The Thunder hasn't won anything yet.

Or how about this: They're equally beautiful.

A college football title is more impressive, since there are many more college football teams than NBA teams. I can't believe OU fans are jealous, though.

It's the NBA title and it's not even close. Anyone that says otherwise needs to get out a little more.

The NBA title is more important to the state. It's the only team in the state and everyone can get behind it. Oklahoma has three college teams with divided loyalties, even though OU has the most support. But everyone in the state can agree to be Thunder fans.

The Thunder has a better chance of a NBA championship than OU has of a National football championship IMO.

Ask the question during football season and receive a completely different answer.

An NBA title has to be worth more because it would be harder to achieve: beating Dallas, LA, San Antonio and Miami/Boston. Plus all those you had to beat to get to the playoffs. To have won a college title required about two wins and a vote. With a four-team college playoff it will mean more.

I'm an OU fan and don't understand why this is an issue. We aren't comparing apples to apples. An OSU or OU fan who is upset at the Thunder's attention should be compared to those Tulsan's that have an issue with the name "OKC Thunder"..., Just get along and get a life. Let's celebrate OKLAHOMA and quit sounding like the rednecks the rest of the world assumes we are!

I am an OSU grad and fan and I wish only the best for The Thunder This has nothing to to do with OU or OSU football.

Picker, Are you trolling for Trouble? Football is king.

The Thunder bandwagon is big right now but they will fall as fast and hard as the Chesapeake CEO if they start having losing seasons.

I suppose they are about the same since we don't have curling.

An NBA championship would be more impressive. 6 of OUs MNC were followed by NCAA probation. Enough said!

The Thunder just need to win 7 more over a 60 year span under 3 different coaches to become what OU football is.

....and go on 7 major fraction probations!

Obviously a NBA championship has alot more nat'l & worldly prestige than a NCAA nat'l championship.
The Wonder Thunder fan support will gain worldly attention towards Ok City. A Thunder NBA Championship will put Ok City on the world stage.

They also have other similarities -- the same fan base, OKC -- and the same promotional newspaper, The Daily Oklahoman.
