OU Women Facing Big Hurdles
Published: 3/12/2008 11:12 AM

This is the team Oklahoma thought might be the one.
The regional will be in Oklahoma City and superstar Courtney Paris is in her third season.
Instead, the Sooners appear in some serious trouble heading into the NCAA Women's Tournament.
Oklahoma became the first team in Big 12 Conference Women's Tournament history to lose to the league's last-place team on Tuesday.
As a result, the Sooners will limp into the NCAA Tournament on a three-game losing streak.
OU has looked shaky even in its victories during the late season.
OU has become so dependent on Paris, and her sister, that the rest of team seems to have collapsed.
That does not bode well for Oklahoma next week.
There are plenty of NCAA Tournament with the shooters and quickness to take down OU.
The loss to Mizzou was not a one-time upset. Oklahoma has not played to the level most expected this season.
Now, there is no more time to develop. There is no room for error.
Oklahoma needs a huge reversal by next week or it could be one-and-done for one of the best players in the women's game.

This just shows that Paris is overrated. She does not elevate the play of other people. She is a great post player. I'm not saying she isn't but she can't do anything else. If she could pass or have a legitimate dribbling threat OU probably would be heading to the semi's.

The Paris twins are not overrated. The problem is they dont have any help from the rest of the team. OU is not a good outside shooting team and they are a young team. Coale needs to recruit some kids that can shoot the Ball and help the Paris twins they cant do it by themselves

I didn't say the twins were overrated. The other Paris is almost ignored. If Cortney matched up with a center that could really dribble or pass she would get blown apart. People talk as though she is that center. She's a great player but she's not akin to a Kevin Durant or Michael Beasley who make it easier for the entire remainder of the team. That is what I meant, because Cortney is treated as though she is the Kevin Durant or Michael Beasley for girls basketball.

I should add that I don't think that most of the media is overrating her. I think most people on the national level realize that an inside threat needs an outside compliment. However, most fans that I spend time with or talk to think Paris is good enough to carry a team by herself.

Courtney Paris is a heck of a player. Much of her dominance is in her size, however.

If the officials ever start calling her for shoving opponents aside before shooting ... she'll have trouble surviving the first half!

They tend to ignore that ... so she's "awesome" instead of "Shaq."
