OU not sharp in First Half

Oklahoma did not look in mid-season form during the first 30 minutes against UAB on Saturday night in the season opener at Memorial Stadium.
The Sooners had their moments but there is work to be done if the opening half is any indicator.
OU jumped out to a 7-0 lead and appeared on the way to the expected lopsided game but had to settle for a 7-7 tie at halftime.
Quarterback Paul Thompson looked especially sharp on OU's scoring drive midway through the first quarter. Then, he looked pretty erratic in the second quarter when he overthrew open receivers and was intercepted twice.
His second interception was especially costly. It happened on a third down at UAB's 13.
Instead of the lead, his second interception led to a lot of second-guessing at halftime.
UAB settled in and made life miserable for the Sooners in the second quarter.
The Blazers came to life on offense and put together one of those drives that no one is supposed to be able to do to OU's defense this year.
But UAB dominated OU's defenders on a 15-play drive that tied the game at 7-7. The Blazers picked and picked at OU's interior on the drive that covered 80 yards.
It tied the game with a little over seven minutes to go in the first half and the rest of the first half was something to be forgotten by Oklahoma.
The Sooners had chances but were far too sloppy.
In those last seven minutes before halftime, they lost a fumble (after a pass completion) and then threw two interceptions.
That was enough to leave plenty of questions still on the table for Oklahoma.

John, what are you going to write about when it turns out OU is really very mediocre and the only real team in Oklahoma is Tulsa University?
