OU recruiting machine hums along

I wrote about the success Bob Stoops is having with Oklahoma's recruiting class of 2009 this morning (Rivals.com guru Jeremy Crabtree slots the Sooners ninth in his national rankings). Leave it to Tom Dienhart of The Sporting News to show how powerful OU has been on the recruiting trail the past five years...

"I averaged the Rivals.com recruiting standings of each Big 12 team from 2003-07, and here is how they look:

1. Oklahoma 1.6
2. Texas 2.2
3. Nebraska 4.0
4. Texas A&M 4.4
5. Oklahoma State 5.4
6. Kansas State 7.0
T7. Missouri 7.4
T7. Texas Tech 7.4
9. Colorado 7.8
10. Kansas 8.8
11. Iowa State 10.4
12. Baylor 12.0

Come to Norman and be a contender; go to Austin and be a pretender!

If the sooners have had so much talent the last five years, how come they got beat by Boise State (2&3 star players) and by West Virginia (3&4 star players), and then got upset by Colorado? Maybe stars really don't count for much. If stars are important, what is wrong with OU? Stoops is a good coach os don"t think that is the problem.
