OU walk-on tryouts: it's time to shine

Wow, another open casting call in Oklahoma?

OK, so it’s Bob Stoops and Jackie Shipp, and not Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. And it’s Norman, not Bartlesville.

And it’s football, not Hollywood.

But it sounds like a great opportunity for some young, confident unknown to get a foot in the door to stardom. Or at least become a tackling dummy on the scout-team offense.

The Sooners are hosting open walk-on tryouts Thursday afternoon. There are, of course, some mandatory requirements:

First, to be eligible, participants must be enrolled as a full-time student at OU for the fall semester. This means 12 undergraduate hours. In a press release issued from BobStoops.com on Wednesday, “additional NCAA requirements, which will be identified throughout the tryout process,” may need to be met.

Second, the online form at BobStoops.com must be submitted. Ditto for a bunch of medical forms that can be downloaded and printed from the website. Those must be returned to head athletic trainer Scott Anderson when prospects report at the Barry Switzer Center on Thursday.

Online registration will be closed at noon Thursday. All required documents must be completed and submitted and medical clearance must be received by OU before 4 p.m.

Check-in is 5:15 p.m. on the east side of the Switzer Center, in the All-American Plaza.

Participants should arrive in workout gear and need to have both cleats and flat athletic shoes.

And if that doesn’t answer your questions, call Director of Football Operations Merv Johnson at 405-325-2345.

All positions are welcome . . . especially kickers.
