OU's Phobia

What is it about quarterbacks running all over OU?

Forget Vince Young. He ran all over everybody. Except the pros. Quarterbacks who run in the NFL become ex-quarterbacks fast.

But the Oregon quarterback and the West Virginia quarterback, every time you looked up, one of these guys was high-stepping it toward the OU end zone.

The Texas quarterback is a runner first and a thrower fourth. He probably punts and blocks better than he passes. But he is some kind of battering ram with the football, shifty enough, and tough as beef jerky.

But how hard can it be to tell somebody not to let the quarterback run?

Last week at Baylor, an OU linebacker almost knocked the Bear quarterback into Monday's freshman English class.

This game will be decided by the quarterbacks. Something seems wrong with OU's lead runner, he's too busy spinning for the TV cameras to gut out a yard. So it's all on Bradford. He's on, Texas can't rush him, OU wins. If McCoy can run, Texas wins.

OU is a little better than last year, Texas is about the same, correct?

In other Big 12 news, Missouri could score 90 on Oklahoma State. The Colorado coach is all talk. Nebraska coach Pelini showed his backside numerous times, screaming and showing up a player of his on the sideline, and trying so hard to score late. Who ever thought the next coach could almost make former coach Callahan look good. Why in the world wouldn't a real football school hire Leach in a second?

Seems crazy that the line is only 6.5.....Time to bring out the deeds to the houses and the pink slips to the cars.....everything is getting doubled up this weekend. Daddy's going to buy a new pair of shoes!!

Go Sooners!!!!!!

OU by 17. Lock.

Texas has won by the score of 52-10 three times this years and that is exactly what OU should roll though Texas by this weekend. The picker is right on here though and somebody needs to tell Bo Pelini he has to win a decent ball game or two before he opens his mouth.
Realist (4 years ago)
Missouri by 23, long hard day for the pokes.

Okay Licker, Here's how it's going to go down.
Texas' McCoy will get some running yards on OU just like Baylor's Griffin did. And, like Baylor, Texas will get beat. Texas will blitz, blitz, blitz in an attempt to stop OU's run game (which they will have success at doing) and to get to Bradford. This will leave their below-average defensive backfield in man coverage- where Sam will throw the ball and kill them. No one can cover OU in man coverage, as they've shown all year. And the Texas secondary is as weak as I've seen all year.
Throw in a couple of picks from Colt and OU will roll. OU: 38 Texas: 14.

Say it isn't so that OSU has scheduled Bacone JC and Northeastern A&M for next year's football schedule
Bill (4 years ago)
You heard it here 1st. Texas wins by 14 and Bobby boy blames the refs!!
ANM (4 years ago)
Say it isn't so, Gus is going to every post and making the same lame joke.
Chris (4 years ago)
Ya, Gus! You are so smart!

Georgia, Houston and Rice are all just like playing Juco teams!

You are the smartest OU bandwagon fan ever!
Jake (4 years ago)
Hey Bill go get a life. Texas won't even score 14. Do you honestly think McCoy can win this on his own? How about Mack Brown who is the Holiday Bowl coach of the century who always blames the refs and wins just enough to keep his job coaching the steers.

Texas has something like 19 sack’s this yr. “Snicker” is right, IF McCoy can run, his playmakin’ abilities can keep OU “D” off-balance. But Bradford & co. are set 2 exploit Texas’s weak-link secondary. Kickin' game 4 OU a concern IF its close?

Why hasn’t some Major/Major hired Captn’ Mike “scallywag” Leach? No college AD is willin’ 2 allow a “loose-cannon” Leach 2 B @ the forefront of the program. 2 bad, because the guy can flat out coach!

“Who ever thought the next coach(@ Nebraska) could almost make former coach Callahan look good.” Classic! The days of a dominating Nebraska R over! Reason #1, recruiting. No longer can the “Big Red of the North” Cherry-pick the 5 star players out of Iowa, Missouri, & Kansas. The rise of them Tigers & Jayhawks have thwarted Nebraska’s once dominance. Plus, Mizzo & KU have developed a “strong” recruiting pipeline to those southern states of Okla. & Texas. Another possible losing season @ Nebraska, again!

Colorado’s defense is so slow, you could walk through it & never have a defender touch you! They’ll be lucky to win 6 games! OSU will run over them in Boulder later this yr.

Big game this week for the bottom-feeders of the Big 12; Iowa St. @ Baylor. Iowa St. has lost 13 consecutive conference road games & Baylor has lost 13 consecutive Big 12 games, something’s gotta give!

Hey GUS, Bacone isn't a junior college anymore- they have been a full fledged university for several years now. I've never heard of the other school you mentioned.
And BILL, the only time Bob Stoops ever mentioned the refs was after the Oregon game two years ago. And if you don't think the refs robbed OU in that game, then you don't know what the hell you're talking about. You should go post on the fashion writer's blog.

Maybe Congress should put that 700 billion on the Sooners!!! Just a thOUght

Gus: As for visiting other sites, what are you, lonely?
ANM: Are you stalking Gus?
Cyco: As I'm sure you recall, this is basically one-fourth of my ten-to-one green bean cheeseburger proposition with you -- at Bros. Houligan on 15th. It appears OU has four and change chances to lose, here, at OSU, the Big 12 game, the national game, with minor implications from KU and Tech. The number itself gives my side of the wager a chance here -- clearly, Vegas doesn't mind people taking OU minus 7.
Eric: Agreed, I thought the number would be 10.
Realist: You'd think OSU would go into its four corner offense and keep the ticks coming on the clock.
Trav: The only lock in sports is the people are usually wrong.

Numerous people emailed in about TU not being ranked, requesting the Picker's thoughts.

There's a rule that says to be ranked, you have to defeat six teams in the top 300. TU is not quite there.

In other words, 95.66 percent of the teams in the top 50 could be undefeated with TU's sked.

Save the whining, there's time.

You guys are baffling me...I'm sorta a Sooner fan and I would have installed Texas giving up a three spot. Hope ya'll are right.
The Cisco Cadaver (4 years ago)
Laffalot...you think Leach can coach? No sh*t, really? Gotta tell you, son, he can coach about half a team...the half with the ball. Any coach worth his obscene paycheck would pay some attention to defense...eventually. The Picker's right in this regard: Leach would have moved on to greener yard markers long ago if he'd been a well-rounded coach. And besides, we all know that Lubbock is where coaches go to die (Bobby Knight, Spike Dykes, etc.).
World Picker (4 years ago)
If there's any truth to the notion that freshmen in key positions spell trouble, Bradford should spin that secondary in circles; if he doesn't get nervous. Or blasted.
Nit Picker (4 years ago)
Bill:
It is possible that Texas wins by 14.
It is a lock that Stoops will not blame the refs.
You being an idiot-another lock.

World Picker:
Yeah, you suckered Cyco into a silly bet; but the only chance OU has to lose in the Big 12 after this week will be in Stillwater-and it will be a good chance.

Records, stats, shoulda, oughta, all go out the window in the RRSO. Anyone with half a brain knows that.
Keep an eye on the Vegas pt.spd. as the week progresses.

World Picker:
Another reason you are just a third rate hack: "how hard is it to tell someone not to let the qb run".
There are 10 other offensive players, many of whom are blocking defenders, that need to be accounted for, chump.
You should be fired.
You get more bigoted as the season goes on.
Do the right thing and resign.

JJ (4 years ago)
Taking hits from OU defense is a little different that getting hit by Rice. And ask Alabama, we are still waiting for Arkansas to hit someone. We shall see how much running around McCoy does before he starts sliding. This game just kind of feels a lot like 2003. No matter how hard the media & Texas tried to spin it, OU was clearly better at all positions. That Texas secondary was pretty forece 2 years later, much like this one will be, but Mark Clayton & co SHREAD them to pieces with yds after the catch. Expect more of it. And the kicking game was not a whole lot better that year..some, but not alot.
MIKE (4 years ago)
So and So university:

Do you want a head coach that completely abandons the run and while at it, gives up clock control?

How about one that goes for it on 4th down...on his own 30 yard line?

Would you like a coach that fires his defensive coordinators when other schools put up huge numbers on them--regardless of the fact the head coach NEVER recruits for defensive stars AND doesn't realize that when your offense is only on the field for 2 minutes, the defense is probably going to be pretty tired by the 4th quarter?

Oh, by the way, he'll probably say a lot of things on camera that may seem funny to bystanders but in the end, will have your university's donors shaking their heads.

If all of this sounds great, Mike Leach is your man!
JJ (4 years ago)
FIERCE... the Texas secondary was fierce 2 years later
JJ (4 years ago)
Mike... never mind all of his off the field weirdness, only in a place where Knight was tolerated, are his habits & oddness kind of ignored.
