OU's sickening situation hits home

I was trying to get a handle on the task facing an Oklahoma basketball team down to eight scholarship players for the next three weeks, wondering how the Sooners are supposed to survive their Blake Griffin-less ordeal with their legs, lungs and all other body parts still functional.
And then I remembered something CBSSportsline.com columnist Gary Parrish had written during a mid-September trip to Norman...
"There will be a day sometime soon when Oklahoma basketball is back to winning big, back to competing for Big 12 titles like it did much of the past 10 years. The Lloyd Noble Center will be packed, loud and intimidating, and those NCAA sanctions from the previous regime will be nothing more than a distant memory. And the reason is in the bottom of that garbage can.
"It's a brown garbage can, the kind you'd find in any hall at any school. It's sitting outside the weight room, big and round and designed to hold empty Gatorade bottles and otherwise typical trash. But on this afternoon it is instead coated with the puke of Cade Davis, a freshman guard who has just finished his first workout after a week off following a Labor Day trip to Canada.
"Davis is sweaty, exhausted and bent over in pain. His head is almost completely inside the garbage can. After about a minute, he shows his face, takes a breath and smiles.
'I love it," Davis says. 'I love it because I know it's going to pay off.'"
