Olympics, Yes!; NBA Practice Game, Junk!
Published:

8/12/2008 1:24 PM
Starting with the mostly magnificent and slightly creepy opening ceremony, continuing through the just-finished white-water rafting stuff where a guy from Toga won the bronze, the Olympics have been the greatest.
We lucked out with the time lapse, as it is so bad it's good, and many events are 12 hours ahead and can be displayed live here in the evening.
Badminton, boxing with its goofy rules, most seats filled for even the weirdest stunts, it's all as good as sport gets.
The laughing Americans and unsmiling Chinese machines are sights to behold -- the ratings have been sensational and figure to get even better with track and field on deck.
On a more unpleasant note, did anybody notice that our fancy friends in Oklahoma City have blessed us with an NBA exhibition game?
This is the sporting equivalent of watching wrestlers practice.
If they want our our support, they must give us real games here, one a month would be great.
Petunia, Idaho, gets NBA exhibition games. What does OKC think we are, rubes?
Forget the mayor's photo ops, an NBA exhibition game is
throwing us some stale crumbs, that's all.

Now, now Picker. If I owned the OKC team and knew how much whining and sniping that goes on about Bricktown and OKC in general I might say, "Go get your own team. It only takes about 450 million."
They once were the rubes, and now I guess we are. We can always show them how far we've fallen by telling them we don't even want an exhibition game. That'll teach 'em from being uppity.

Why should they give us regular season games? That's the stupidest thing you've ever said, Licker. And that's saying a lot, believe me.
Are the Laker's throwing games to San Diego? Are the Spurs throwing games to El Paso? Do I need to make a comparison for every other NBA team?
How stupid are you to think that the OKLAHOMA CITY team would give games away to another city? And why Tulsa? Why not throw some games to Norman and Stillwater, they've got big gyms.
Once again, Licker.. (sigh). Once again you've proven my sad point about you and your observations.
World Picker
Alden, perhaps you don't understand: They want us to PAY to see this inglorious practice.
The point is, we want more, want a real game or two or three.
Another point is, they think they're doing us a favor.
This is a very pointed day. Here's another point. Has everybody continued to notice that the new Hubcap in downtown Tulsa is a weekday venue? The NBA practice is set for Monday, Metallica is Tuesday. This just in, have your photo taken with Metallica's grandkids in the lobby, ten dollars.
This bumper sticker will say it all: IF IT'S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE TULSA.

Cyco Myco is comparing Los Angeles with Oklahoma City.
Thus his nickname.

World Picker:
Now is not the time to turn chicken and quit calling them the "Chaw".
What a wimp you are. All sizzle and no beef.
Wear your Chaw t-shirt to the practice game. I bet you could get a bench pass.
I'll sell tickets.
I smell big bucks here.
World Picker

Thunder, thunder, over Thunder Road, thunder was his cargo, white lightnin' was his load......
Chaw sounds better than ever.
I'll be there Nitwit, maybe you can watch on TV from the Chicken Noodle Soup Wing.....
JD

Well said Picker! I couldn't agree with you more concerning OKLAHOMA CITY'S NBA team. I will not be spending my money to watch PRACTICE.

Hey Licker,
I'm not comparing LA and OKC. I just said that LA wasn't giving away their games to other cities. As some fools in this city have suggested OKC do. Although, if I was comparing the two, I would say: In L.A. they don't have to see the Licker in the paper- in Tulsa, unfortunately, we do.
And guess what, jackass? What night do you think The Eagles are on? It's not a Tuesday. What's wrong with Tuesdays anyways? Is that the night your mommy tucks you in early?
Alden

I thought it was a given that people will have to pay for tickets, be it exhibition or regular season games.Once the season begins I doubt there will be many driving from Tulsa to a game, except maybe bus trips. I wish the OKC success and I don't think we need to be whining about what is their business. We've got more to whine about here in Tulsa than you can say Grace over.
JDG
Picker,
First it is the Chaw, then the only reason OKC has a team is because state government is located in OKC (vacation is Sacramento?), and now for Tulsa to support the team they have to play regular season games in Tulsa?
How about support the team because it is good for Oklahoma? Oh, that would be wrong since they took the OKC name, even though OKC leadership and OKC ownership brought the team to the state.
Why not focus on our lack of progress and what WE can do to bring big time events and be able support them to town?
What a joke. I think you only mention the OKC situation because it drives up the responses on your blog.
Can I get some residuals?
Oh, It is probably because murders, exhibition games, and public works projects (see baseball stadium) funded by the same couple of families (see BOK and George Kaiser) is way to depressing.
How about focusing on Tulsa unity to create the same type of success as our friends in OKC?
As I said a week or so go, why is it in Tulsa, falling behind is staying ahead?
You are a JOKE!
JDG
Picker,
"...If they want our our support, they must give us real games here, one a month would be great"
You have as much class as a hooker begging a passing car for a night out on 7th and Lewis.
As mentioned earlier, how many other cities have a neighboring city claiming they won't offer support unless home games are played in their hometown?
Stay "classy" Tulsa... I am ashamed to share this city with you and the other rubes.
Nice writing skills "our our". Aren't you the pro?

Picker, you're welcome to come to one of my wrestling practices. There will be more slams there, anyway.
OSUNDN
Sounds like JDG knows too much about the hookers on 7th and Lewis. Talk about class. JDG, your man crush is showing. Go back to OKC. NITWITTER/NITPICKER, are you still here? Sorry my use of words on the other blog hurt your virgin ears. Try to get out more.

OSUNDN,
1) You have OSU in your name
2) You are from Claremore
3) You owe me because I supported your family by picking your mom up on Lewis so she could put food on your table.

Settle down everyone...read this comment from Bennett, posted in the 8/12 edition of the TW:
Asked about scheduling regular season games in the BOK Center, Bennett said, "We can't play any regular season games out of our arena (because of a lease agreement). But we are committed to playing preseason games here and I would like to do it every year."
Way to be informed.

World Picker:
If you go to the practice you will not wear a Chaw t-shirt because you are a coward.
Your minions will not go because they can't get a ride-no one will pick them up at the bus station.
As usual you have written little that is original, and less that is insightful. Much that is juvenile.
OSUNDN:
Your lack of vocabulary and childish posts never hurt my ears; they evoke my pity for you and your family.
Where you been? Payne County tractor pull?
If World Picker and OSUNDN are indicative of Tulsa's class, the Apocalypse may be upon us.
Both are Pat Jones wannabes.
Eric

Nit picker is joke of the century. I guess you dont need a job if your still living in your parents basement. I bet hes finding it harder and harder to sleep...the fair is coming to town.....excitment is in the air.....its the one time of year he can go out in public and be around people almost as jacked up as he is!
Chris
Nit Picker gets mad at OSUNDN for childish posts but sticks up for JDG when he spews curse words on this blog.
Talk about a hypocrite.
Only if they agree with you, right Nit Picker?
You may seriously be the biggest loser in all of Tulsa and OKC combined.
I feel bad for your parents. Still having to support you after 39 years of life.
World Picker
Nit Picker is a failed writer who has never expressed an original thought in all his obsessive compulsive time here.
Show compassion, he's a sad sack.
OKC is playing Tulsa like a rented double-wide. Can't get out of a lease, bull. It made the lease. Doesn't want to get out of a lease for one lousy regular season game, fine.
Let's see how much fun you Edmond and Norman yahoo inheritors are having when that team is 2-20.
Nit Picker
Eric:
Being unemployed and not needing to work are two different things, chump.
Were I to attend the fair, I feel certain I would see you and your family. I always am intrigued by the freak shows.
Chris:
You are confusing my insults tossed at you with sticking up for JDG-- obvioulsy your love affair with World Picker has blinded you--or maybe something else you are doing is making you go blind.
You are confusing being mad at OSUNDN with making fun of him.
You, too, are confusing unemployment with no need to work, chump.
I am having a smashing good time watching you, and other WP minions, get all red-faced with your veins bulging in your necks over little old me.
Not to mention the huge laughs I get when WP jumps in (usually over his head) and proves my points for me.
Making you folks squirm and look silly is as much fun as I have had with my clothes on in a while.
It isn't exactly like shooting fish in a barrel, but pretty close.
Now, you minions, wipe the drool off of your chins, order your pizzas, pop the tops on your domestic brews, and try to think of something intelligent to say before you pass out.
Oops. I see it is too late for that.
Alden
Nitpicker. Have you ever had a restraining order put on you for stalking? I am starting to worry about Worldpicker's safety regarding you.
You need some serious counselling.
Eric
Nit picker...just because your parents allow you to live in the basement after all these years doesnt mean that you dont need to go get a real job....and working for two weeks a year barking for the yak women at the fair doesnt really count. get a life sucka!
Chris
Nit Picker,
The only one who is getting red-faced is you.
Which is very clear from your posts. You really are creepy, man.
World Picker
Nitwit has never been the same since he lost the OU-Colorado bet to the Picker and refused to pay.
Now he's trying to make it look like he wants people to find him incompetent and disgusting, when in fact the reaction is simply natural.
He stalks skill.
Nit Picker
World Picker:
Actually, I was the one that said OU could very well lose the Colorado game--you said it would be close.
Seems to me you owe me money. Pay up, chump. And please don't offer a free subscription to TW like you did last time. I want cash this time.
Chris:
Get someone to read your posts to you. They flame. But it is OK. WP says you are cute when you get mad and that vein in your neck pops out.
Eric:
Why would I get a job when baiting you guys is so much fun. It doesn't pay much, but I keep my own hours and I get to laugh at your expense.
And, I get to expose WP as a welcher and you all as WP homers and minions.
Alden:
The World Picker has nothing to fear from anyone. He has you and Chris, and OSUNDN, and Eric firmly homed in on his well being.
Of course if he makes a sudden stop while walking down the hall we could witness the largest human brown noser pile up in the history of minionville.
Talk about your wedgies.
I take it none of you has the cojones to go to an OKC NBA game wearing your Chaw tee-shirt with WP''s real name on it.
Didn't think so.
Hang around, chumps, you make my time here more fun than a box full of puppies.
Yikes, I could almost feel guilty. Naaaa.
