On Thursday morning, Oklahoma State’s media relations office issued a press release about Levy Adcock, the Cowboys’ first-year starter at right offensive tackle.
OSU refers to the 6-foot-5, 318-pound Adcock – a junior who played in high school at Claremore Sequoyah and in junior college at Northeastern A&M – as “the best offensive lineman on the nation’s No. 1 offense.”
That’s a pretty strong statement, but during OSU’s weekly news conference on Monday, both coach Mike Gundy and offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen spoke very highly of Adcock. Gundy referred to him as “a freak.”
OSU reports that Adcock has not allowed a sack in 754 snaps of game action, graded out at an unheard-of 100 percent in the Texas game, has graded out at 85 percent or better in five games this season, and has 36 knockdown blocks through 10 games.
At the midway mark of the August preseason camp, Adcock was battling Parker Graham for the right-tackle assignment. Adcock was viewed as being a nice prospect, but he has been as surprisingly brilliant on the line as Justin Blackmon has been at wide receiver.
Adcock is an extremely legitimate All-Big 12 candidate, and OSU’s line play as a whole has been a huge factor in the Cowboys’ surge to the No. 10 position in the BCS standings and first place in the Big 12 South.
