On the road again

Good to see that my tag-team partner Bill Haisten has some Bob Seger tunes planned for our “Manhattan Marathon” trip Saturday.
Heard one of Seger’s classics from the 1970s on the radio this morning, Turn the Page (which my wife Jennifer sometimes has confused for my favorite Led Zeppelin tune, Immigrant Song.) The Seger tune applies to OSU’s contest Saturday at Kansas State.
For those of you who are not Seger fans, or have forgotten the lyrics, here’s a sampling:
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page
How does this relate to the Cowboys? First, they are on the road again, a place that has not been kind in Mike Gundy’s 15-game tenure. Being up on the road stage has resulted in a 2-5 mark for Gundy’s troops, including last season’s horrific 0-4 showing in Big 12 games. The Cowboys were not competitive at all in losses at Texas A&M, Iowa State, Baylor and Oklahoma in 2002. OSU allowed an average of 47 points and nearly 500 yards to those four teams.
The setback two weeks ago at Houston does not give much confidence as the Cowboys open Big 12 play with consecutive road contests. The passing combination of Bobby Reid and Adarius Bowman needs to be the playin’ stars again. The defense that was stalwarts in the first three games must deliver a strong effort to win at Kansas State for OSU to turn the page.
If that doesn’t happen, then OSU will be hearing the same ol’ tune from a year ago.
