One Dozen New Thoughts

1 -- What is the status of the Panic Button connected to TU basketball after the unsightly home loss to Houston? The Panic Button is not out of the box. But the box is open. And it appears that somebody has dusted off the Panic Button.

2. Reggie Bush could be a punk.

3. Did we tell you OSU-Texas was not important enough to be considered a Classic?

4. Color announcer Phil Simms solidified his position as one of the most annoying broadcasters ever, droning
on and on about nothing in that shrill immature monotone that reminds us of one Motormouth Mathews, who used to announce semi-pro baseball games on radio in our summer league.

5. Neil Everett iced down his position of worst anchor that ESPN could ever hire in the next 100 years. Look at the affected manner in which he crosses his hands. Who is he, anyway, Chris "Ethyl" Berman's son?

6. The womens' bracket of the Australian Open, seen late night on the Dunce (the Deuce, ESPN 2), is pleasing to the eye.

7. When you think Billy Joel and Prince, you think football, right? They're performing at the Super Bowl.

8. The point spread of Indianapolis minus 7 versus the Bears appears competitive. Below 7, you might think Indy would be the play.

9. New Orleans played like sissies and choked.

10. Isn't Bob Stoops way too smart to even think about commiting himself to the Dallas asylum?

11. Though it would be entertaining.

12. As would OU's next hire.

2. Reggie Bush was totally out of line and I think he really pissed off the Bears D.

7. Really, do these Super Bowl halftime shows matter? Really. I know people that tune in just for the commercials, but I never hear, "Boy, I better check out the Super Bowl halftime show. Prince is performing!"

9. Why weren't the Saints running the ball more?

10. No.

11. Very.

12. Extremely.

There's only one of those I'll address, Mr. Picker, sir.

1. I think this TU basketball team is still going to be pretty good by year's end, and has the potential to be sensational in another year or so. As young as they are, a little time is in order. Besides, Woj seems to have this way of really growing a team over the course of the season. I'm thinking by tournament time, they'll be feared.

On a note that neither you nor the "normal" columnists seem not to address. Jillian Robbins is setting the world on fire, despite no longer having a team around her that is really capable of drawing any attention off her. She's doing her double-doubles on a regular basis ... in quiet anonymity. It's a shame everyone is so attached to Courtney Paris and Sherri Coale they are missing out on one fantastic athlete in Robbins.

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
