One More Reason to Love Tulsa

Oklahoma City doesn't have one. Neither does Little Rock or Kansas City or Denver or St. Louis.
San Antonio and Omaha don't have it, either.
But Tulsa does.
The University of Tulsa gives our city something that many cities in this area do not have – Division I-A college football.
The allegiance of college football fans in this city range far and wide. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State dominate in numbers of fans and alums in this city.
Still, having a major college football game just down the street is another benefit of living in Tulsa.
When your favorite school isn't involved, TU provides another way for a college football fan to see the sport they love.
It hasn't always been good college football the past two decades but it has almost always been entertaining.
But fans should feel lucky to have so many options around here.
I've always considered our newspaper to be a great place for someone that loves college sports. Not only do we have the Sooners and Cowboys of the Big 12, the Golden Hurricane of Conference USA and Arkansas of the Southeastern Conference.
Pick your team and pick your conference.
I love the variety. I love covering all of the schools.
They are all so different and so much fun.
Still, covering Tulsa football is a joy for me for a simple reason.
After nearly 30 years of being gone every Saturday in the fall to a football game, getting to stay at home almost all day and then make a 10-minute drive to the stadium is nice.
I left my house at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and was at the stadium and in the press box at 5:45 p.m. I was comfortably in my seat for the kickoff of TU's game with North Texas and able to watch the frantic final minutes of OU's loss to Oregon on the press box television.
Before the game, I was able to go workout, eat lunch with my wife and spend the afternoon with my family enjoying a beautiful day on our patio.
Then, after a two-mile drive up Harvard, I was at a major college football game.
Once again, there are advantages to living here and that's one of them.
