Opportunity knocks in Athens

Entering the 2006 season, Oklahoma State was considered by most college football media to be the Big 12 South's worst team.
As the countdown has begun to the 2007 season, the national perception of OSU has been adjusted considerably. Dallas Morning News and Sporting News bloggers are suggesting that the Cowboys may be destined for their first BCS bowl appearance.
National writers designate Oklahoma State-Georgia as being among the better nonconference matchups of the year.
The Cowboys open with the Sept. 1 test at Georgia's 92,000-seat Sanford Stadium. One of the more prominent online ticket sellers has for sale more than 200 OSU-Georgia tickets. Prices range from $144 to $550. Apiece. This game is becoming more important by the day, both for the Cowboys and Bulldogs.
This is such a pivotal period for OSU. Opportunity knocks in Athens, Ga.

Couldn't agree any more.

The more reason I like this game being scheduled last year. If you want to become a "serious" contender in the Big 12 & not a 1 or 2 season "hit wonder", you have to start getting "gutsy" and scheduling tough non-conference games.

When Colorado was up & coming in the Bill McCartney days, he did this with trips to Michigan (who can forget that incredible last second catch).

My point is, it's time for OSU, unlike any other in the history of the football folklore, to rise to the next level.

By no means am I expecting a National Championship year. Only significant progress towards 8+ wins & a decent bowl, with more to come, as the road schedule is daunting this year.

When McCartney had the "magical" 89 season, the next few years +, brought a whole new level of expectation to that program. I see the same with Coach Gundy & the Cowboys now that they are on equal footing, financially for the football program with the others in their division.

It was beginning to look like a Vanderbilt of the Big 12 with no "light at the end of the tunnel" until Mr. Pickens and Mr. Holder had the guts to call it like it was.

What's ironic, is Terry Don (previous AD) had the vision & dream, just not the right financial strings or connection to bring it to fruition.

OSU has nothing to lose playing Georgia Sept I and everything to win.
Every score, every 1st and 10, every shack.....will be noted. If they win or come close, it will improve the status of the program and Big 12. If they lose, they had the experience of playing against a top team and will be better prepared for the season. I believe they will compete well, not give up or give in and could surprise many.I can't wait. Play your best, OSU! I would love to go but we will be watching and yelling from home but I am saving for the bowl game. I loved the win over Alabama last bowl season. I took the whole family.
