The recount is in: Oklahoma State choked.
Roughing the kicker? Third and 12 and there's no secondary? Bad stuff, that.
Let's discuss briefly: What's a big game?
It depends on who you are. On the whole, it is a game that moves a team toward a national championship. For OU, the biggest game of the year was Missouri. For a big-time program, after any loss, the games become medium to medium big.
For OU, the OSU game was upper medium.
For OSU, it was the biggest game in school history. And OSU didn't know how to act.
The OU homers came up big: OSU played two real teams. At home. And lost to them both.
OU and Nebraska play Saturday in a medium low game, for the right to play in a meaningless bowl against who, Connecticut, as a 30-point favorite? Thanks to the BCS, all bowls but the main one, and something involving a nobody up from the depths, are meaningless, they're home movies, paid vacations.
TCU in the Rose Bowl? Pass the caffeine.
By the way, does anybody know why OU is going to Dallas to play Nebraska?
The Aggies did beat the Sooners.
OU is going because it played a strong non-conference schedule. Just like when it kept an undefeated Auburn team out of the main game.
OU will be in Dallas because it beat Florida State.
When you play a good non-conference schedule and win, you get stuff.
Note for OSU coaches: Third and 12 with the game on the line, the other team might pass.

Actually, the reason OU is playing this weekend instead of the other two teams is simple: Preseason rankings. They have an unfair advantage based off of people's opinions of how a team may do before the games even start. Keep in mind, these same people had Texas preseason top 10.

The BCS is a joke.

ACTUALLY, the real reason oh uninformed one better known as firedancer is a&m has 3 losses and there is only one team with 3 losses ranked higher than a&m and that's Alabama and they are only 2 slots higher. Has nothing to do with preseason rankings and has everything to do with a&m having 3 losses and beating OSU the night before the rankings came out, see OSU was ranked higher before the game kind of blows away your theory about preseason doesn't it???

Poke Choke? Croak? Goat? Did T Boone go thru a box of Depends watching his beloved ‘boys loose another one to them hated Boomers?
‘Gooner offensive line outplay OSU’s? Snicker giving any credit to Vendables OU “D” that kept OSU off balance all night.
Disagree w/ Snicker, OSU game was a Huge game for OU, look @ the after effects, from recruiting to prestige to prominence to continued stature as the #1 team in the state.
How “thorny” are the Rose Bowl reps over having to take TCU? over, say Stanford? Wonder if there’s some behind the scenes “deal” being worked out?
Kudo’s to OU’s “intent” @ playing a ‘tuff OOC schedule. u ‘thunk other BCS bowl wanabee’s are paying attention? Hello A&M.
I guess OU remembered how well OSU defended the “potent” Corn-suckers pass offense.
IF the OSU/OU game was a “medium” game for Coach Snoops, it sure helped enshrined his coaching legacy. They are still the Top Dawg in the State & still a Big name nat’lly.

When asked about the gutsy calls late against OSU, Kevin Wilson said that they had to try something unexpected because they thought that if they didn't, OSU would score.
So, no, Laff, if the O co-ordinator says that, no heaping praise to the D co-ordinator.

Classic example of one team (OU) playing to win, while the other team (OSU) played not to lose.

Well,it actually boils down to which teams execute better and the better coached teams are those that execute better. If you have stud athletes of equal ability then failures to execute properly (bad passes, poorly run patterns, poor blocking, penalties, unforced turnovers)will make a difference in a close game(forced turnovers are just good execution by the team getting the ball) so if "choking" means not executing properly then pretty much every losing team "chokes." If you think it boils down to a loss of nerve or lack of character I think you are full of it.
But What Do I Know?

OSU, will you ever escape your inferiority-complex? Is a loss to OU that inescapable? The game was your's to lose.... and, of course, you lived up to your own expectations. Gonna head it to the Sooners, all they had to do was step on the field. Nice try, cowgals.

So let me get this straight: it's only a "big game" if OU loses. Gotcha.
DomoArrigato

And OU rediscovered that they have a Tight End that can be included on passing plays ! !

Agree with the Picker on why OU over OSU and A&M when it came down to it. Non-conference schedule. Agree that preseason ranks unfairly push "certain" teams over others heading into the season and for those that hold the early high rankings, will benefit over those entering the top 25 late. But in this case, OU was ranked behind OSU heading in so really didn't have a preseason advantage. Still hate preseason polls. Halfway through the season would be a better mark. I mean, imagine this scenario, two teams undefeated ahead of an undefeated Auburn team. Auburn & Newton get left out because they were late to arrive in preseason polls... oh wait, that played itself out when Tommy Tupperware was coaching the Tigers.

I see so that is a big game for OU? Any game that pushes them towards National Title? Ok, now we know the rules, remember you set them, also remember when you set them as you will be reminded of it constantly, or at least til I die.
Using your premise, nope so far biggest game was Texas, the next will be Nebraska. As both of those games will result in recruiting rewards going to future National Title runs, another context you also use to describe "big games". The Bowl Game? You are right, who cares? Unless of course they lose right pick? But I do get sleepy even just looking at the potential matchups.
Glenn616, actually using the pickers formula, every single solitary game OU plays is game of the century, it is armageddon, every one. If they win it moves them towards title, if they lose, to anyone, at any point, their season is over. So next year Pick the Ball State matchup had better be treated as a Big Game. Good news Glenn616, that means in pickers head the Utah State game was absolutely monster game. Funny I don't remember pick calling him "Big Game Bob" afterwards. I know your job is to tweak fans noses pick, but you really are reaching on this whole what is a big game and what isn't thing.

Maybe Stoolwater State might learn something from your article picker. Playing nobodys to build a ranking only blows it for you when you do Have to play somebody. Like the Cornhuskers or The University of Oklahoma. Nope...scratch that...Gundy will never get it. Will always be happy playing inferior teams and saying they are "just as good" as other big 12 teams. Deep inside Gundy knows he shouldn't even be coaching where he is.

Pick-man, I am pleased that you have acknowledged that, from Stoops's perspective, Bedlam was a "medium game" rather than the "big game" that you suggested earlier.
Had the Sooners lost that game, we would've had to change his name to "Home Game Bob" but, since the Pokes committed the personal foul on the ill-advised punt block attempt to allow the Sooners to salvage what should have been a 41-40 loss, I suggest that we let Stoops retain his "medium game Bob" handle for at least another year.
From the Pokes' perspective, it was certainly not the biggest game in their history. Fourth biggest, at best. Two in the 40's, 1984, and possibly 1988.

I also don't agree that we only played two "real" teams. We played aTm. At home. And won. In the very first conference start for our QB. Sure, the Aggies had the pre-season POY at QB still behind center but, if we play the Aggies now with our now-seasoned Weed-man and our experienced pups on D, we beat them even worse.

It's amazing the same old theme that the Picker uses: By all accounts, from anyone you talked to, anything you read, or saw on TV (including the national level), this was a huge game for all involved...but not anymore since OU won. Really, that is insulting to OSU. They are a very good football team and will go to a top tier non BCS bowl and probably win it. Hindsight is too easy and too often used by the Picker to illustrate his points. The bottom line is the OU D had more success than anyone else they played. You do realize they (OU defense) gave up only 27 points Sat night?? That is barely half their avg and yards were over 200 under their avg as well but I guess the defense played like crap...

Because "the Picker" never admits how incredibly wrong he is:
TU beat a team that IS bowl eligible.
TU beat a team that HAS a winning record.
TU beat a team that won out, blasting top-10 opponent and beating AP top-25 rival USC for the first time since 2001! (And it was AT the Rose Bowl!)
TU beat a team which is top 40 (and would be top-25 had their refs successfully defeated TU).
TU beat a team with a starting QB who is better than Crist (TU dominated while Crist was playing. The backup has proven to be better.).
TU beat a team with one of the best coaches in college football (see Cinncinnati post-Kelly).
Most teams play with more passion after tragedy (see what USM did to Houston after the shooting). There are countless examples.
Admit that you were wrong. Notre Dame is a good team and it was a huge win for Tulsa. It was not the biggest win in TU history (obviously) but TU has won every game since winning in South Bend.
The Picker

Admit Notre Dame is a good team?
You see that USC chump drop the winning pass?
Notre Dame is not a bad team, how's that?
Besides being ESPN's toy, the current bowl system contributes to a nation-wide gambling epidemic, as the only game that means anything is the last one.

Picker,
Admit that you were wrong. Notre Dame is a good team and it was a huge win for Tulsa. It was not the biggest win in TU history (obviously) but TU has won every game since winning in South Bend.
Notre Dame has the #3 toughest schedule in the nation. Everyone N.D. played has winning records except Purdue. OSU played four losing teams & OU played five. #1 Oregon has played only FOUR teams with .500 or better records!
Notre Dame Defeated:
Pitt (tied for 1st place in Big East and can still go, albeit undeservedly, to a BCS bowl).
Utah (#21, 10-2) - Would still be top-10 if not for ND hammering them in South Bend.
Notre Dame Lost to:
MSU (#7, 11-1) faked a FG to win 34-31 in OT
Stanford (#4, 11-1)
Michigan won on last-minute play.
Navy - borderline top-25 team (8-3)
Tulsa - borderline top-25 team (9-3)
Had Notre Dame (and their referees) beaten Tulsa, they would be top-25 now.
whereintheworld
Notre Dame is one of the better teams in college football. At least 75 teams would trade their strength of schedule and results for Notre Dame's: Being 7-5 with the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation is an accomplishment for most any team... even if ESPN has taught YOU to ignore most of the season and only read "7" wins and "5" losses... "That's bad".
Notre Dame fans expect much more than 7-5, but you'd have to be pretty oblivious of Strength of Schedule to consider Oregon extremely good (they've played FOUR teams .500 or better) and Notre Dame bad (they've played ELEVEN teams .500 or better).

TO QUOTE "THE PICKER":
"TU Beats Dogs
11/1/2010 12:22:29 PM
"You'd have thought TU beat a team that will be bowl-eligible, a team that will at least have a winning record.
"You'd have thought TU beat a team ranked in the top 75.
"You'd have thought TU beat a team that had its starting quarterback for the game.
"You'd have thought TU beat a team that had been good in the last, oh, 20 years.
"You'd have thought TU beat a team that had a coach who knew what he was doing.
"You'd have thought TU beat a team that wasn't mouring a tragic loss.
"You'd have thought TU beat a team that had not just lost to Navy by 50.
"TU beat a big-name school that has a lousy football team.
"Period."
whereintheworld

This was the Pickers defense to picking Notre Dame to win big over Tulsa:
"MexiMike, did you hear that Notre Dame's starting quarterback went out?
ND was the pick before the injury that dictated the outcome of the game.
Few can predict key injuries.
Be nice, and I might guarantee your beloved OSU over OU."
Tulsa was leading (and playing better) the entire time Crist was in. Notre Dame's backup QB (Tommy Rees) has been BETTER than Crist... leading the team to play better than any time before the Tulsa game.
