Out of bounds already in the Ryder Cup?

One of the things captain Corey Pavin presumably had to mull was the distraction factor when deciding whether to add Tiger Woods to the Ryder Cup team.

Would the world's top-ranked golfer prove to be a distraction because his past is fertile ground for the tabloid folks?

This question was asked to Pavin during a Ryder Cup press conference Tuesday: What's Tiger's relationship with the wives and girlfriends (of U.S. teammates) off the course? Is he getting any of the cold shoulder and have you told the ladies to pretend to be nice to him?

The question was followed by laughter.

Pavin answered this way: "Everything's fine. Team room's great. I didn't talk to anybody about anything like that. It's not necessary."

Here's my question to readers: Was that a legit thing to ask Pavin? Or was the first out-of-bounds shot in the Ryder Cup hit by the person who asked Pavin about WAGs (wives and girlfriends) in the media centre?

Yes, they spell it centre over there.

Not as much out of bounds as foolish. Like McIlroy's comment, the European team would have been better off not to wake the sleeping giant of Tiger Woods. When provoked, Tiger has always responded on the course.

Tiger Woods at any tournament will always be somewhat of a distraction. The fact that he is a member of the Ryder Cup team makes him a little more of a distraction, especially in light of recent events in his personal life that have obviously affected his professional life.

In asking Corey Pavin that question, which is a legit question given our society these days, I think the writer knew he was gonna receive a 'coach speak' answer and very little else.

Perhaps he was just looking for a reaction...
