Last January, Adrian Peterson stood on the sidelines at the East-West Shrine Game, cheering on four of his former Oklahoma teammates, including one of his best friends, cornerback Marcus Walker.
The message from the Minnesota Vikings All-Pro: "I told them, 'This is your last opportunity in pads to show the scouts what you have, so you've just got to go out there and lay it all on the line."
Walker took his buddy's message closest to heart and intercepted an Anthony Morelli pass in the second quarter of the college all-star game. He was rewarded three months later with a free agent contract with Peterson's Vikings.
"I was ecstatic," Peterson said of the reunion with his old Sooner mate. "I had talked to him a day or so before. He was kind of down and I was like, 'God works in mysterious ways. Keep your head up and it'll work out best for you.' He ended up in Minnesota with me and he's doing well."
Any chance Peterson gave Viking brass a nudge Walker's direction?
"Nah, I didn't have to do that at all," he smiled. "They told me they were very interested in him."
