Peterson: no news is no news
Published: 1/15/2007 11:40 AM

As of 11:45 this morning, Adrian Peterson allegedly still hasn't made up his mind whether to jump to the NFL or return for his senior season at Oklahoma.

His deadline is 5 p.m.

The timing of the whole thing stinks – from a newsgathering standpoint, anyway.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday alters a lot of normal operating procedures. The National Football League office in New York City is closed for business (although the NFL is in the midst of playoffs, they found time to take a day off). Most of the athletic department personnel at OU are home for the holiday, including sports information director Kenny Mossman.

Mossman replied to an e-mail query this morning that "so far there is no word." Later, he sent a mass e-mail saying there is "no news of a decision, no news of an announcement and no timing for any of that information. When I hear something, I will send out an email."

And then there's ice. Even if Peterson wanted to hold a press conference in Norman, he probably couldn't get there from Palestine, Texas. He might have trouble getting there from his mom's home in Purcell. (And if he did, I'm iced in pretty good here in Broken Arrow. A 2-hour drive would likely become a 3- or 4-hour drive.)

So we wait.
