Pettigrew stays

The first football victory of the 2008 season came almost eight months earlier than anticipated for Oklahoma State.
Brandon Pettigrew's decision to bypass the NFL Draft and stay for his senior season should result in a few additional successful Saturdays this fall for the Cowboys. The junior tight end announced Monday he will stay at OSU for his senior season.
Pettigrew would have been justified if he declared for the draft. He passes the eye test in terms of measurables (size, speed and strength) and has no character issues. However, tight end rarely is a need position for many teams on the draft's first day.
There is no indication how the NFL Draft advisory committee evaluated Pettigrew. But if Pettigrew continues to progress after another year of college football, it would not be surprising if next year at this time he is regarded as the top tight end prospect for the 2009 NFL Draft.
