All-Big 12 tight end Brandon Pettigrew has decided to remain at Oklahoma State for his senior season.
The 6-foot-6, 260-pound junior had been considering early entry in the NFL draft. Tuesday is the deadline for underclassmen to make their draft decision. College players become draft-eligible after they are three years removed from high school.
While quarterback Zac Robinson could be viewed as the most important player in the Cowboy program, Pettigrew could be considered the most talented. Tailback Dantrell Savage had been, in my opinion, the most talented Cowboy. With Savage having exhausted his eligibility, that status is inherited by Pettigrew.
During the 2007 season, Pettigrew totaled 35 catches for 540 yards and four touchdowns. His highlight plays occurred in the fourth quarter of victories over Texas Tech (a 54-yard touchdown) and Kansas State (a 39-yard score).
In OSU's Insight Bowl triumph over Indiana, Pettigrew had three receptions for 39 yards. The Tyler, Texas, native's career totals stand at 70 catches for 978 yards and nine touchdowns, and coach Mike Gundy says Pettigrew is equally effective as a blocker.
