Picker Dominates Industry

Did you know that one day last year, the Blitz on Oklahoma City and Tulsa CBS TV outlets stopped its live show to talk about the World Picks?

And did you know that this fall the local sports Animal radio network did a weekly show about the World Picks?

All true.

Why?

Because we're SO right.

Here is some very important writing about opinion.

One day last week, we heard a member of the Oklahoma City print and radio media give a know-it all lecture about how Arizona didn't belong on the field with the Steelers, that the game was basically a waste of time. And in the New York Times, a writer said the the BCS could turn out to be smarter than a pro playoff, because the Steelers would humiliate the Cardinals.

The message is this: opinion without an accurate pick is chatter, gossip, baloney. If opinion cannot be substantiated with a reasonable pick, then what's the point of listening or reading? The point of knowing it all is to get paid. What does a wretchedly bad pick mean? That the opinion preceeding it was gobbledygook.

On the brighter side, what does perfect pick after perfect pick after perfect pick mean?

Well, when the Picker brings to the table a homer or a hack, it should be considered to be similar to another pick.

When we missed the OU-Florida BCS pick by one point, we wrote that we would try to do better with the Super Bowl.

Seems we did.

Picker:

What is the true meaning of life?

Who really shot JFK?

WHAT ARE THE WINNING NUMBERS FOR WEDNESDAY'S POWER BALL DRAWING?

"We're not worthy, we're not worthy, we're not worthy"

Mr. Picker, would a monument be appropriate?
World Picker (4 years ago)
Now we're getting somewhere.

Gene the Winning Machine, you see Oxley's horse ran like an ox in Florida?

I'll get to your points in a second Greg, Patricia Arquette, star of the Medium, is on the other line with a couple of questions.

From coast to coast, the same "brilliant" sportsland talking heads who said AZ didn't belong on the same field as Pittsburgh were not-so-curiously the same folks who were bloviating about what USC would have done or what Utah would have done. Just goes to prove nobody knows anything for certain - that's why they play the game.

"Almost" nobody, Mike, thank you very slightly.

So what!!! They talk about Charlie Manson on TV too, but that doesn't mean he is right.
Vern (4 years ago)
Charles Manson is on TV too, but that doesn't mean he's right.

What do you know, the gang that couldn't pick straight is starting to assemble, we though Vern and Derokie and Marathon Man were out somewhere crying like little babies and Roger Federer.
Vern (4 years ago)
Big deal, Charlie Manson is on MSNBC almost every weekend, that doesn't make him right either.

Somebody might check on Vern.

You go past Vian to Whoop and Holler, drive three miles along the dirt road to Fugative Hill, make a left, Vern should be in the fourth tree on your left.

I've got to give it up to you Mr. Picker, we don't always see eye to eye, but you've been on fire lately.

On a side note, any comments on the OU/TN women's game last night? Why is Bob Knight doing color commentary? Is it a good thing that the "streak" came to an end?

Called out, I will respond.

Can't beat perfection....but, it seems to me this ranks right up there with "Blind Dog finds Bone".

The reason I'm less than impressed? I beat the vaunted Picker 7 of 10 weeks during the season - and I didn't know anything about some of the games he selected!

Clearly, my performance (and about 900 others) is what forced the Picker to step up his game.

Frank, about women's basketball.

It can be something of a tough game to get into because it's played mostly on the ground floor.

If your school is great, that generates interest; or if there's a great player like one of those UCON stars, you watch.

But somebody neutral might have trouble staying with a good women's game with no rooting interest.

True, the women shoot well. But that's partly because the basketball is smaller. It's a full inch smaller, and two ounces lighter. So with a markedly smaller basketball, it should go through the rim more.

If the basketball is smaller, should the rim be lowered?

It's interesting if you have a vested interested, or if somebody is flat-out great, how's that.

Picker, did you have a few ribs removed? It is almost obscene to see you get this excited about your own success. Note for future successes, let others vaunt them; it will make you appear like you have experienced them before. Then, don't be the one to point out that others are celebrating your success, it makes you appear needy.
World Picker (4 years ago)
Brainless Trust, you're right, 14 of the last 15 picks winners against the point spread, it's no big deal.
Glenn (4 years ago)
I figured Pittsburgh would win the game. They have the top-ranked defense in the NFL. However, Arizona was the hot team that was playing superb football. Therefore, you could not count out Arizona. Great pick!

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
