Picker Owns Memphis; Moves to Wall Street
Published: 3/27/2009 12:59 PM

Would some of you please do us a big favor?

Quit being so dumb.

Not the media. There's little to no hope for the media, which exists in a Homeric (as in homer) stuffy bubble full of freebies and back-slapping and working for the Man (the team you cover).

But you, the regulars, can improve, can wise up.

As you know, we selected as our Upset of the Generation, in print and in big fat letters, Missouri outright over the brilliant Memphis Tigers, point spread aside. The point spread, by the way, went up, up and up, as people took Memphis around the clock.

And today, Friday, after the big Missouri win, here was what the jokers were saying: Memphis was overrated, Memphis was out of shape, Memphis was bad. Guess what chokers: The fact of the matter is that Missouri has good players!

The point is this. When you're wrong, take it, don't refocus the blame.

This was waiting for us in the Picker email basket.

Dear Picker: Since you have clearly mastered sports prognosticating, could you please help with Wall Street?

The answer is yes.

The stock market will go up.

Wow, how about the rest of your bracket Picker? Oh...
The Picker (4 years ago)
Mexi Mike, could you possibly come up any weaker?

Brackets are for Aunt Minnie. It's like betting your cat's name at the horse races. It's fun enough. It's the lottery. But it has nothing to do with handicapping. What is it exactly you get for your brackets? Nothing? Wow. Surprise, surprise. What did we get for the stunning Missouri upset? Let your imagination run wild.

Just so you won't lose track, Mikey, our point spread record is now 22 correct of the last 23.

Just think, you can say that we actually take a few seconds to respond to some of your mourful calls for help.

Gee, Mr. Picker. The whole reason I entered the bracket game through the TW link was because of you. I worked really hard at it and studied all your columns and blogs so I'd know just who (or rather who not, to pick. And now you tell me I'm Aunt Minnie. That really hurts.

Maggie, forgive me, I was trying to shoo MexiMike away.

I'd love seeing your bracket any day.

Where do you count the "OU will dominate OSU" in Norman and "UConn could lose their first round game - Seriously" ??????

Your "streak" is so over that it is last month's news. Move on.

Picker,
One week and no answer to who is the best coach in Oklahoma? You are a fraud.

Who is more overrated? Sherri Coale, Jeff Capel, or Bob Stoops?

Based on your logic, Pete Carrol, Mack Brown, Jim Boheim, Jay Wright, Joanne P. McCallie, and Sylvia Hatchell are all overrated.

Maybe you are sad that the newspapers are going away and your days are numbered. Oh well, at least I am contributing to your longevity and livelyhood.

You owe me.

"The Syracuse guards will take the OU guards to school and will keep them after class and will having them sitting in a corner, facing the wall, apologizing."
Your quote, is it not? But your blog is great fun to read, and you've got the guts to put it in print!

I wonder IF the Snicker needs a personal bodygurad?

I was nicer 2 my mother-n-Law than most these “nerds” who post all this hatred, abuse, animosity, & dislike.

Most say nothin’ when your right, won’t let U forget when your wrong.

The only “frauds” I read, are those who ‘attack da’ Snicker then go back 2 posting on “Pray 4 a Date Dot com”

Luv 2 know ur Mizzu/U Conn & OU/N.Carolina picks?
How many tissues will Roy Williams use?

"Recently we gave you as our Lock of the Half Century, Oklahoma State over OU in hoops.

Here's one bigger: Syracuse over OU!"

Sounds like someone lost all the money they made on their streak of 21 of 22 or whatever it was. By the way, didn't your technical writing teacher tell you exclamation points are amateurish? They also make you look that much worse when you come up that empty...

Will you guys please quit picking on Mr. Picker? All this animosity makes me very uneasy.

Mr. Picker, I'll show you my bracket if you'll show me yours.

Love,
Aunt Minnie

The reason the Picker won't talk about his bracket (posted on the TW website in the contest)?

He got only 3 of the elite 8 correct - and the only Final Four team he still has alive is North Carolina.

OUCH. Stick a fork in him - he's done.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
Wow Pick, looks like you take things a bit personally. I find this both intriguing and hilarious.

Nice lock on Syracuse beating OU, by the way...didn't you also have Tennessee beating OSU? I doubt you'll be writing a blog anytime soon on how you were absolutely wrong on both local school's counts.

I can't wait to see what the new blog will be. Hopefully, you'll show some much needed and deserved humility...until then, enjoy the crow.

Slap the Picker's face Marguerite. He does not deserve to see your bracket!

Blue if you are tied with the Picker, you are "flaming out"

Mr. Picker, did you see Quality Road run the final fraction on Saturday? Very nice. I'm thinking of a box; Quality Road - Friesan Fire - Hold Me Back. Watchmaker listed Pioneerof at 12 - 1; a drop from 6 - 1. Those numbers will be just right come Derby Day and I might throw it in just for fun. Ain't this exciting?
The Picker (4 years ago)
So I was off one game on the OU massacre, big deal.

Who knew Syracuse was a bunch of pansies.

Gene -- isn't that Hank Goldberg's Box Supreme?
