Question: Who is going to fill those many thousands of new seats at the Pickens Football Palace and Corporate Retreat?
Answer: Good point. If you can't sell out a game for a top five team now (Kansas), what's to happen when Podunk State comes town after the expansion? Cardboard cut-outs of people? Was the building done for necessity or vanity? Would lowering a single-game ticket price from $250 to $5 even work? How about a big curtain in front of the empties, like at a Taylor Hicks concert.
Q: What about the TU basketball team?
A: It's only one game. But the mood among the loyalists is somewhat downcast. Scoring 55 and not making the NCAA tournament will not pay the rent. Progress is necessary. Not overnight. But soon.
Q: What about the BCS?
A: Odds are, it lucked out again and will match the two best teams in the last game, LSU and Oregon.
Q: Kansas-Missouri?
A: Kansas is the story of the year because it is the poster team for sissy scheduling. To date, that kind of thing has never worked, one reason being, playing bad foes does not prepare you to play good foes. KU figures to lose to either Missouri or OU. But if it doesn't, it will revolutionize the game by dumbing it down when it comes to non-conference scheduling. PS: The Kansas quarterback can play. Missouri's defense is still debatable. KU-Missouri in KC looks like a flat-out toss-up.
Q: Is there any way to stop the spread offense?
A: Only one. You blitz. Lay back and lose.
Q: What's up with all the upsets?
A: It's like OU-OSU, nation-wide. Teams with nothing to lose, and a good quarterback in the spread formation, are so dangerous. Teams with everything to lose tighten up. With nothing to lose, you don't have to be a genius to go for it on fourth down in your own territory. What you have to be is an underdog. Don't forget, it's the great programs being upset.
Q: Will New England go through the regular season unbeaten?
A: Yes. And any asterisk should go over Don Shula's mouth.
Q: Would OU defensive coach Brent Venables make a good head coach somewhere?
A: Yes. Sure. Oh yes. Positively. Yes, yes, yes!
Q: How could the OU women's basketball team reach the final four?
A: After clanking in 3 of 18 threes on national TV, it is our opinion that the OU women could make the final four by dropping down a division.
Q: Who is the biggest flop of the year in college football?
A: Tie, the state of Florida teams, and Steve Spurrier, who brought his "Let's Golf," defense from the NFL to South Carolina. The "Let's Golf" defense is where you stand around, then beat the traffic out of there.

" Without nothing to lose, you don't have to be a genius to go for it..."
And you don't have to be a genius to write a sentence that poorly. Do you proofread, oh wise one?

I've always thought that teams should make the seats in the stadiums the same as the team dominate team color. That way in televised games the stadium would always appear to be full. This wouldn't work for OSU because the end zone will be completely empty 95% of the time. Until they start winning games (yes, i said "until". I'm an OSU fan and i like to be positive) they won't get close to filling it up. The only time it will be full is every other year when Bedlam is in Stillwater and then the end zone will be filled with 20,000 Sooner fans and negate any home field advantage for The Pokes. They should paint a giant Pistol Pete head or an OSU emblem on the seats. Then at least it will look cool.
My solution: Drop all the prices, obviously. I personally don't mind paying them now, but i know a lot of people do. How about $65 or so dollars for a ticket on the sides and $45 or so for a end zone seat? Thats for Big 12 games. Non conference games should drop them by another $20 unless its a big name opponent like Georgia in 2009. Those games you charge the Big 12 prices for. Even then it may not sell out, but it would get a lot closer. Then when the team starts winning (being positive again!) and starts selling out the stadium you can raise the prices a little and no one will complain. I think with having more people there buying drinks and food you could make up for the drop in ticket prices.

TS: You pick pretty well after the games are played. How do you do before the kickoff?
Reader: You wouldn't know a well written sentence from a bacon cheeseburger. Are you aware that a typo can be something other than an upside-down letter? Thanks for complaining, it gets the Monday off in the right direction.
Llama: I got a note from the father of a group of KU students who came down for the game and couldn't afford the tickets!
Orange and blacks seats, not bad.

Hey, Mr. Picker:
What's up with instant replay in college football? The NCAA says all plays are reviewed. Really? Then why in the world would a coach’s challenge ever be necessary? And how could a call possibly be reversed after a coach’s challenge? If all plays are reviewed, wouldn’t you expect them to get it correct before the game moves on?...Challenged or not.
Are the Zebras nearly as good as they think themselves to be?

FYI My OU seats in 2000 - yes 200 year of the national championships were $300 total for te season for 2 seats. They were that price also in 97,98 & 99. OSU should get a clure, fill them up, then gradually increase the prices. My tix are higher now, but not ridiculously so. I think my friends that have tix in Lubbock pay about 2/3 of what I pay for OU tix & that is probably fair to expect OSU tix to go for.

JJ, i have OSU season tickets with my buddy Ryan, my brother and his wife. We bought family fun zone seats which are located in lower section A. That means we are near the bottom on the south side up against Gallagher-Iba. They are not the best seats in the world, but the stadium is small enough that there aren't really any bad seats. We payed $235 apiece ($940 total) to get four tickets to every home game. Thats right under $40 per game which is down right affordable! The better seats get expensive real fast, but i don't need to be on the 45 yard line to have a good time. I do think the tickets can get ridiculous, but you can go to a game without breaking the bank if you try.

The continuing T. Boone half time show (bonanza) could empty a stadium and most network seats also.
Perhaps Mr. Holder will double the current ticket prices. He can go for the snooty angle.
"A very limited selection for the disriminating few". This offer will not be repeated and cannot be transferred.
We finance.

The fleecing of the fan is what most people don't get! Anyone astute enough to get the fact that when anyone decent visits a team in the BIG 2, the ticket prices go up 200%? Even TU fleeced its dwindling fan base when OU stumbled into town for its 8th home game. Come on people, use that Bachelor of Arts degree from 3rd tier State and vote with your wallets.....watch it on FSN......Bill Land is a genius, and quite entertaining.

It supply and demand. If you aren't selling the product there is either too much of it on the market or it priced to high. I don't think anyone would argue that there are too many games a year, so obviously the ticket prices are to high. The die hard fans will pay it most the time, but OSU doesn't field a good enough team (YET! Still being positive) for the moderate fans to shell out $85 to watch a game.

OSU (Holder) jumped the gun on ticket prices. Some of what they did made no sense. For instance, I paid ever escalating ticket prices for 6 seats in Section Q (basically 15 yard line on the N. side) for 10 years, then I get a notice stating that- guess what? We are making your seats donor seating! For only $150.00 more per ticket plus the new, increased price of that ticket, you can sit where you always have! So what do I do, I let those seats go and move up to South side club level. I buy 2 seats, spend basically the same amount of money that I did before (but now I'm not bringing friends/fans) and I get a healthy tax deduction on a good portion of the ticket price. During the 2006 season we enjoy tailgating in the parking lot right behind the stadium and going up and watching the games in the club level. Season over, and guess what? I get another letter. To renew seats for 2007, I was informed that I HAD to buy the crappy buffet that they serve up there and since it was now an additional good or service that was provided, the deductible portion of my ticket price would drop in an amount equal to the inflated cost of the food! Pure genious. In addition, I get a separate notice that "due to construction, we find it necessary to park you in a gravel trap 1/4 mile NORTH of the stadium!" Pure genius. Well I have high hopes. Gundy's an idiot, but we did win the bowl game after all, so I take the bait once again. This year, I park in the gravel, arrive just before kickoff. I don't tailgate since I've now paid for crappy food up in a private area of the stadium (which obviously can't be seen on TV), and I leave right after the games because of the trek required to get to the car. In other words, it's no fun. OSU will fill the stadium. T Boone has the coin to fix the coaching situation. The team will improve. Until then, we need to drastically lower ticket prices, start making common sense business decisions, and improve the overall game experience. We also need to fire Gundy.

You won't believe this, but I have many family/ friends who are OSU alums and who enjoy(ed) going to the football games-for many, many years.
Your sad tale about the ticket prices and the loss of tailgating has resonated with me. Finally, something on a mature level to rant about.
For years fans at many schools, not the least of them OSU, have supported the school's football program. They-as you- bought tickets, tailgated, took friends/family, had a good and enjoyable experience; all regardless of the fortunes of the team.
Now, you are basically relegated to an anonymous source of revenue. Plus, the team seems to be digressing.
Many feel your pain. Few have expressed it as you have.

I thought scheduling easy non conference opponents was 'genius, shear genius' when Bob Simmons did it a few years ago?
That is a direct quotation by the way.
Shrouded Llama

SBJ's story is a good one. It's a shame that OSU is doing things like that. Game day should be an all day experience with friends, tailgating, food, etc. I rarely get to do this because i work on Satyrday's so i usually leave work with just enough time to drive to Stillwater and get in for the kick off, but the few times i have it has really made the game more fun.
I think trying to instill a championship attitude in the team and fans isn't a bad idea, but you can't start charging championship prices until the team gets to that level.
ALPHA DOG

Still not getting the point 3rd Tier. Let me make it simple for you, you pay escalated ticket prices because the Thinking Heads at the University know you ain't coming to see the dung your team puts on the field,
but you are actually coming to see a"quality" team, the opponent. OSU doesn't charge $275 bones a fanny to see Northeast Louisianna Tech State Junior College, they fleece you to see the "Big" names, of which I can't think of one at the moment. Again, vote with your feet and wallet, quit going and watch it on FSN....I am telling you, Bill Land is the best! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Picker, as always, good questions and points. But about the Pickens retreat. Sure there is a question about fililng seats, but how is a school so far behind in facilities supposed to catch the big boys if they dont build a showcase of which to be proud? Were they supposed to recruiit to a rusty erector set? Ask Va Tech what they thought 25 years ago when people called them crazy.
By the way, nice talking to you behind Pei Wei a couple of weeks ago.

I had OSU season tickets for years...then a couple years ago they raised the tickets to the point that I couldn't justify spending the money when my dear ole hubby and son are really bigger OU fans than OSU fans and were going to the games with me just to support me - gotta love that about them! $1,000 for three seats in section Q just wasn't something I was willing to do. Then just as I was thinking that maybe I'd get two tickets this year they raise the prices again. I decided to get TU season tickets for less than half the price and I can walk to the games. As a TU employee I don't make enought money to support OSU's continuing desire to raise ticket prices. Maybe when the end zone opens up I'll be able to afford those tickets - if Holder doesn't make the genuis decision to raise ticket prices again and make the end zone prices unreasonable also.
I've heard some alumni justify the price increase by saying that when you build a new house you have increased expenses and that's what we have at OSU, therefore the price increases are justified and that we should just blindly support the team and the increases. I can't jump on that band wagon and don't know of many alumni that can. Put a consitently winning team on the field and maybe the increases can be justified.
I did break down and spend $190 for two tickets to homecoming and had a great time but that's a once every couple year treat for me.
Lowering the prices makes sense to everyone but Holder and T. Boone I guess. Makes one wonder how those investments can make so much money when they can't seem to make good decisions regarding ticket prices.

Is Stillwater's location a problem when it comes to filling more seats?
The pick of all-time history could be as follows: Kansas State outright over Missouri.
Anybody see the Oklahoma State basketball game versus North Texas?
North Texas is actually pretty good.
Not much going inside the paint anywhere in the state this year, is there.

World Picker: KSU outright over Missouri = the pick of all time history?? I say MU by at least 17.
