Picker Versus Homers
Published: 5/20/2009 3:42 PM
Last Modified: 5/20/2009 3:42 PM

A homer is biased.

Bias is unfair.

What's worse in sport?

Bias in these-here parts usually has to do with OU: Anything connected with the Sooners is beloved. Some OU homers still cherish Kelvin Sampson. Anybody beating OU at any sport is considered by homers to be a world power simply by association.

Bias cheats the fans out of information and knowledge.

Homers do have some value. They're so wrong about things, you can make a fortune investing on the other sides of their opinions, where such wagering is legal.

Homers sometimes attack their attackers -- chief among the proponents of sports equality for all being the Picker and his legion of fans -- by denouncing the anonymous nature of our Super Hero status.

Get this: Homers across the land profit greatly off anonymity! They have and love and use anonymous sources. And they welcome with glee anonymous emails and blog responses. Writers and radio hacks make their livings off anonymous people! The Picker makes a living picking beautifully.

When somebody who profits off anonymity decries anonymity, that is the definition of hypocrisy.

Anonymous responders can be vicious.

Anonymous writers are whimsical and pick more winners than all the homers combined, and attack only the punks who can defend themselves.

We love and encourage all your nicknames. Who knows, maybe a cure for an illness will come anonymously. We vote anonymously. Some people feel more creative anonymously. Vicious and personal comments are signs of mental instability.

We will now take on the homers once more.

Clip and save: Blake Griffin will make a good but not great NBA pro, Kenyon Martin-style.

Stuff like Denver isn't Iowa State.

Picker, I made similar comments about Griffin two months ago and was viciously attacked for it. If there had been a TW blog when Stoops got hired I would have said that none of his quarterbacks (Bradford, maybe) would complete a pass in the NFL and I would probably not be alive today. Way inflated "homer" sense of talent.

The Picker has upset the Homers....but tells it like it is.
buster (4 years ago)
Vern, your right I don't think his real name is The picker, but then again maybe it is.
I bet texas fans, florida fans, OSU fans, tulsa fans aren't bias. Yeah right.
Ignatz (4 years ago)
Picker, I made a comment about how downright pathetic and laughable John Blake was as a head coach one time and lo and behold, OU fans came out of the woodwork to tell me what a fool I was. There is just something so irrational about being a Sooner fan who brooks no criticism it's astounding. You guys can say whatever you want about Todd Burns or Claude "Hoot" Gibson, I know a dud when I see one.

Yaaaaawwnnnnn.

The broken record continues to spin.

tattoo, please enlighten us with some of Gundy's "massive failures".
tulsandn (4 years ago)
Blake used 5 maybe 6 QB's against Nebraska in the 1st qtr - nuff' said.....Schnellenberger was a drunk.....Stoopsie needs to be replaced by Heuple before someone hires Josh away....Gundy is 40 & a man, so he is what he is, kinda goofy but funny, we laugh at him, not with him....Tulsa does the best it can do, some game days they rise up & look pretty good against the big boys but they can't sustain it over an entire season, no depth....

Am I a homer, absolutely, I watch all the games at home on TV because I can't afford the tickets unless someone gives me free TU tickets, which happens quite regularly....Thank you my friends....

Caller: Hi Al, how do you think Zac Robinson's seasonj will go this year?

Al: I like Zac. Gutty kid who works well in their system. If Sam hadn't come back for his senior season I might say he is the third best QB in the Big XII in '09. Sam has the opportunity to win back-to-back Heismans and possibly play in another national title game. The key will be getting by Texas. If OU can win that game then I think they will be playing for the national title. I know the O-line will be young, but you can never count out a Bob Stoops coached team. What do you think Jim?

Traber: Oh, I agree Al. The Big XII is loaded at QB this year but Sam is obviously the cream of the crop. Texas game is definitely the key for OU's season. Will be a tough game, but I'll put my money on Sam and Bob over Colt and Mack this year. O-line is a worry, but the coaches will have the kinks wored out before Texas. One worry is Tech and the system that thad genius Leach has put in place down there. He really is building a top-notch program in Lubbock.

Al: Yeah, what Mike is doing at Tech is unbelievable. Just show how good Stoops is at picking assistants. Cant' believe ha hasn't been hired away by another school.

Traber: I know Al, but he does have a good thinjg going there. It is amazing at the talent Stoops continues to attract at assistant coaching posistions. Seveal on the Staff now that would make great head coaches.

By the way Al, I just want to thank the caller for his question and encourage more OSU fans to call in.

Al: Absolutely Jim, I love taliking OSU football.

So, tattoo....

Are you going to enlighten us about "Gundy's massive failures" or just attack each poster instead?

Just curious.

And also, was your original name Nit Picker? You seem about as logical as that guy.

In defense of Pickers comment:

Being the number 1 pick means that you are going to a losing team. Its hard to be a "great" on a bad team. And the Clippers are bad. Nothing to do with Blake's ability

however,

Blake had trouble rallying when the Sooners got behind AND there is the "glass jaw"

Hey Tattoo, here are the latest sports talk radio ratings just in: You and ten other suckers!

The local sports talk radio ratings are basically zero!

They lose out to the Scandanavian Folk Art station. You can look it up. Nobody with a clue listens.

I hit 20 of the last 21 football games against the point spread, remember? Only a chump fish could want a favorite to win a horse race. Favorites are for losers.

Speaking of Griffin: Why couldn't he just to to Europe a year to get away from the Clipper nightmare? How long does the NBA team retain his rights? He could try to make them trade him. He needs to be on a team with some shooters. His jump shot looks like dodgeball. But he's another Rodman when it comes to boards.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
ChrisR that was by far one of the best posts ever. What's unfortunate and sad is how it's not even a caricature; it's an exact impersonation.

Tattoo was not hugged enough as a child (or perhaps too often by his wacky uncle). Attack me if you need to--I know it's really your father you are angry at.
Arbythree (4 years ago)
LOL Vern!!!

I only read the Picker's blog now for the TW posts, not his comments.
But What Do I Know? (4 years ago)
Who among you remembers Claude "Hoot" Gibson? I do. He and Buzz Peterson are honors graduates of the "Love 'em and leave 'em" school of coaching.
OutPickMyNose (4 years ago)
Oh tattoo....

Still waiting on that answer to my question.

Or are YOU going to keep attacking everyone?

What a moron you are.

See, I can attack right back. It is really easy.

So, are you going to answer my original question? Doubt it.

And you indeed are Nit Picker. Creepy, obsessed Nit Picker.
OutPickMyNose (4 years ago)
Haha Ok Tattoo.

First off, you are certainly not an OSU fan. You can't fool anyone on here.

Secondly, he is a young head coach slowly building OSU into a solid program. See OSU's top 10 ranking this season.

Can you really compare someone from a typically lower-end program throughout history and say he has failed because he hasn't made a BCS bowl in 4 years?

Can you really say he "failed" because he stood up for a player on his team?

How many times has he "failed" to win a game OSU was supposed to win? Troy? Maybe Houston? So, that is 2 games.

Well said.

And he doesn't need to be offered other jobs to justify his status as a coach. He isn't going anywhere, because he is an OSU alum.

Finally, OSU had some talent issues when he was a first-year coach. Now they finally are going to be able to compete. Wait and watch.

I don't need to justify the tickets issue. As if it is only Gundy's fault. What a hack you are!

And keep trying to justify "massive failures".

Homer? Hardly, if you compare to yourself.

So, the only one who feels this way would be you. An anti-OSU homer who loves to talk smack about everyone on a message baord.

I am sure you live a lavish and rewarding life, tattoo.
A Jones (4 years ago)
ChrisR

You nailed it.

The only change would be to change Traber to Coach Pat.
OutPickMyNose (4 years ago)
"isn't it odd how most of you nit wits - Picker chief among them- can dish out the smack but go ballistic and homer on us when someone smacks back."

Who started the smack talk on this blog exactly, tattoo?

You may need to go back and re-read. Logic is certainly not your middle name.

And why try and change your name, Nit Picker was perfect for you.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Tattoo, the results from your tests are in. You're really boring.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Tattoo, here's the last question they asked Nit Picker before they carried him off to you-know-where: When was the last time you talked about something in the future, not hindsight?

If you can't recall within a month when you looked ahead, maybe you should run.
OutPickMyNose (4 years ago)
Tattoo,

The only "thing" you defined was your true stupidity when it comes to OSU and sports.

You can enjoy your "victory" in that tiny brain of yours all day. I am not the one who has to justify his existence on a blog.

You attacked everyone on here first. Sorry you can't see that. You really must be slow.

Defining "lavish" living for you would consist of having internet service at your parents house and eating McDonalds at least twice per week.

I think you have that at least.

Also, how much are you willing to wager on Gundy "never" winning a BCS game or Big 12 title? I bet nothing, because you would just slither away like the coward you are.

What is "illogical" about your comments? Hmmm....maybe everything. Come back in 10 years and lets chat then. Or do you define everyones careers after 4 seasons?

Nit Picker.
