Win or lose, football will be good medicine for the University of Miami football team this weekend.
Folks are debating whether the Hurricanes should play a football game so soon after the death of a teammate. Miami defensive tackle Bryan Pata became a homicide victim Tuesday.
Miami is scheduled to play Maryland today. UM officials decided not to postpone the game. That was the right move.
UM players have had several days to grieve and pay their respects to Pata. The Hurricanes need something to take their minds off of tragedy and a football game will give them the opportunity to do that. If the game was not played, players would have nothing to do but sit around and dwell on the worst kind of news, and that's not healthy.
When tragedy struck Oklahoma State's basketball team in the form of a plane crash five years ago, a group of Tulsa World writers set up camp in Stillwater and worked from daylight to dark every day. I remember being glad to be busy because you didn't have time to think about how bad that situation really was.
Life goes on, even in the worst of times.
