Poll Position Great for OU, OSU

The preseason top 10 does not reflect the weakness of the old Big 12.
If Nebraska was still in the Big 12, four of the top ten in the Associated Press poll released on saturday would be in the much-maligned league.
Even with the departed Huskers, the current Big 12 has three teams in the top nine including top-ranked Oklahoma and ninth-ranked Oklahoma State.
People like to say the preseason rankings don’t mean anything.
That is only true to a certain point.
If you are serious about making a run at the BCS Championship Game, you need a spot in the rankings early in the year that gives you a chance to be in the top two at the end of the season.
All Oklahoma has to do now is beat Tulsa on Sept. 3 and then keep winning every week.
Oklahoma State is in a similar good spot to reach the BCS.
A year ago, Auburn was not even in the top 15 at the start of the season and won the national title.
Despite the obvious negatives surrounding the Big 12 this summer, the release of the preseason poll was a welcomed piece of good news.

#1 preseason rankings and SI covers have historically not been kind to the Sooners. Combined with some key injuries,it's a very worrisome position to be in at this point. Let's hope the Sooners use great reserve talent and the veterans play up to their potential.
Good luck to the Sooners!
