Post Weeden

Not to be a spoil sport or anything, but in trying to be real, this question might be worth asking.

Is Oklahoma State's football program on a major upswing, or is it all Weeden?

In case nobody has noticed, this guy looks something like the Green Bay quarterback. Receivers must catch passes or be hit on the face with the football.

Watching Weeden last week, you were not aware of a west Texas gale.

He is rather reminiscent of the Auburn quarterback last year.

What is Auburn this year?

Auburn is okay.

Not that there is a single thing wrong with riding the exploits of a great quarterback. Others are envious.

A great football program either has defensive monsters year after year after year, or great quarterbacks year in and year out.

W/ Weeden OSU is a nat'l title contender. W/out Weeden, OSU is @ Mizzu/K-St level

Your comment matches your screen name -- isn't juxtaposition fun? Weeden is most certainly unique in many ways but I would recommend the poem, "The Indispensable Man" for your edification.

You answered the Weeden question in an earlier blog...something along the lines of greatness being predicated on QB play...and it is. OSU doesn't have a long list of superstars on their roster. What they do have are a bunch of really good players with a superstar QB.
Weeden is OSU...just like:
Kinne is TU
Klein is K-State
Newton was Auburn
and so on...
Without a great QB, teams that lack a full roster of exceptional talent will be average at best.

OSU goes back to the old days, old ways and old plays next year.

It's a difficult question because Weeden as the starter coincided with Gundy relinquishing the OC duties (to Holgorsen, now Monken). Since Gundy has become a full-time head coach, he's been a much better CEO of OSU football, and his relaxed, professional attitude seems to have permeated the whole program.

No doubt, Weeden is mature, relaxed, and business-like. He'll be tough to replace next year.

Thanks to Gundy, I think the culture of OSU football has now changed. The coaching staff also has the recruiting pipelines established. I expect us to be a perennial contender as long as Gundy is the head coach.

As an OSU grad, unfortunately I have to agree with the Picker this time. Weeden's backups aren't very impressive. Maybe they'll step up. Time will tell.

P.S. Picker, I prefer your last year's cartoon, with the gigantic tongue sticking out. It better visually describes your usual blather. Oh yes, you'ld look more normal with a OU decal on your red hat.

Better find another great one then.

NBA?

OSU - your magnificent QB is out the door soon and your #2 doesn't belong in the same conversation with Weeden. Brace yourselves for a full season of 3-and-outs starting next year...

OU - you have maybe 1 more year before the same thing happens to you...

TU - fire your scheduling coordinator and get real.

I am just curious, why are you people not working as the head scout for some NFL team, I mean each of you know so much about future talent in the NFL?

I think you will see some regression next year. That is too be expected. Don't forget what it was like for OU in Landry Jones' first season as a starter.

Hopefully you have a 10-2 or 9-3 year as a young quarterback takes over and then have another 2 year run like the last 2...

Kevin Durant will be available...

I know QB is a different position, but every year since R. Woods or A. Bowman, that same question was posed of the recievers.

There will definately be a drop off, but until that next guy steps onto the field we won't know how much.

OSU thought the same thing after Fields and Robinson.
Tulsan in Exile (last year)
I don't know about OSU, but TU is unlikely to see much of a drop-off next year for several reasons. First of all, the out-of-conference schedule is dramatically easier. But also, Cody Green will be terrific at QB. I think he will be every bit as good as Kinne.
The Picker (last year)
Nobody will be as good as Kinne.

Fields and Robinson were the equivalent of walk-ons compared to this guy.

I'm sorry. What was that about Weeden you were saying???? Was it the "deer in the headlight's look" he had last night??? LMAO

Gundy has still never produced the signature big win. Look at this years schedule and it was absolutely set up for OSU to appear in the BCS title game. Texas is awful, KSU is average, Tulsa-Arizona and La Tech out of conference.

Way to blow it all Friday night Gundy. Way to take the pressure off your team and probably subject us all to a repeat of the epic "game of the 18th century, LSU v Alabama.
