Pouty OSU Fans, for Shame!

Who is the Big 12 hoop coach of the year?

OU's Capel?

Close.

The man can recruit. And at hoops, recruiting seems to be approximately 93.4 percent of the deal.

But he can't quite figure out a point guard puzzle, or understand that in all his wildness, Pattillo is better that what's next. And OU won't win the conference.

KU's Self?

Close.

He's a master recruiter, getting his special type of hard-nosed guys who lead the league in positive intangibles.

Missouri's Anderson?

Close.

But Missouri's press is best served home-style and isn't as effective on the road when cheap fouls start flying.

OSU's Ford?

Why not. He would get the Picker's vote.

First, he follows a legend and change, a legend and the legend's son. Then the center wanders off. Next, fans stop going to the games, as though there was something more interesting to do in Stillwater that watch an NCAA tournament basketball team.

After basketball, here's what there is to do in Stillwater. Study or drink beer.

That's right: NCAA tourney team! If OSU beats Texas and K-State, it will be 9-7 in the conference and has to be the fifth team into the tournament. And OSU over Texas is the pick here.

Somebody re-educate the fans quick.

Self should be COY. He lost 80 percent of his scoring and rebounding. His team was lost early in the year.

As far as OSU fans, I agree, somewhat. Watching heartless basketball the past two years has put off some fans. So has Holder. They'll be back. I predict the two largest crowds for the final two games. OSU fans are a knowledgable group. They know OSU must finish at least 9-7 to have a chance at the Tourney.

It's pretty early in the day to be hitting the sauce, Picker.
IamAgenius (4 years ago)
Of course a Sooner would hate this type of blog. But Capel doesn't deserve coach of the year, it is Self all the way.

If anyone on OU should when COY it should be Blake Griffin, who has made Capel what he is. Thanks to Sampson calling Taylor way too much and getting him to sign in 2005. Capel didn't even have to recruit Blake, he was going to OU regardless. Dave Bliss could have been the coach, and he would have still come.

Griffin is the beast here, not Capel.

The biggest improvement from predicted spot to actual finish would be what, Missouri?

Landing Warren is coaching brilliance for a fact.

Has anybody figured out how Ark beat OU?

The best way to play it is to let the season play out, tournament included, then vote.

Self is probably the leader.

Mo the most improved.

OU has the biggest questions.

OSU the least appreciated.

Somebody said at the last home OSU game there was nobody in the Pistol Pete suit.

So from a recent graduate perspective, a lot of this has to do with ticket prices. Anyone know who has the most expensive student tickets in the country? That's right, OSU. The year after we went to the final four(ideally the time with the most hype) we had tickets at almost half the price we have now. Inflation isn't that ridiculous.

Beyond that, Holder divorced OSU from really positive relationships with the Suttons(at least in the minds of the fans). This helped get two centers off of the team.

Although I will still buy tickets and go, I understand the logic of: leaders with crappy morals, crappy basketball team, entirely different style of game than what made us successful, why would I want to buy overprice tickets?
OSUArthur (4 years ago)
Here's the deal, if Travis Ford does beat Texas, then let's talk COY.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Arthur, good point.

It seems that students are being shaken down on hoop ticket prices, same as older people. Somebody said a student ticket price for hoops is around $242, which should be against the law, as most students don't always have 242 cents.

Bill Haisten is doing a piece in the Friday paper about area ticket prices. Here is TU's: show an ID, get in free.

At Stillwater, there is a scam seemingly cooked up out of desperation where the last two good games, Texas and K-State, cost only $10, total.
NN (4 years ago)
What about $10 for the last two home games is a scam??? Sounds like a bargain deal to go pack the house to me.

It's sad that it has come to this point...where OSU has to resort to OU-type gimmicks to attract the fans, but it it what it is.

At least we didn't have to do it in our better years like OU has had to.

Pack the house Pokes and lets get our mojo back!!!
The Picker (4 years ago)
It probably is closer to a gimmick than a scam.

You'd think Saturday OSU will be favored over Texas, a point or two; I like OSU.

And it's starting to look a little unusual about Griffin, isn't it, sounds much more serious than anybody thought at first.

OU at Missouri Wednesday, Missouri is the pick, with or without.
Ignatz (4 years ago)
Texas beats OSU, so enough of the NCAA Tourney talk.
Dash Riprock (4 years ago)
Jeez, look who turned into a Poke fan all of a sudden. They won a few games in a row and now Travis Ford HAS to be considered the favorite to win the Big 12 COY. What have you been watching? Mike Anderson will win this COY because he deserves to win it. Who in their right mind can't see that? Mizzou is a lock for the Big Dance. The Pokes are a bubble team at best. Let's do the OSU thing...let's reward mediocrity.
mgsooner (4 years ago)
IAmAdullard, I mean genius, to say Blake Griffin chose to attend Oklahoma because of anything Kelvin Sampson did is absolutely ridiculous. Blake was NOT going to Oklahoma when Kelvin was still the head coach. He had already been told by Taylor how big of a bum Kelvin was. Then Capel came in and everything changed.
MexiMike (4 years ago)
From an OSU fan and alum, Mike Anderson is the COY. He does not have the recruits that Capel or Self has nor does he have the Nat'l Championship ring on his hand. With all this being said, his team is in the top 3 in the conference and top 10 in the nation. But like many posted, let's wait until the end of the year to decide.

Aww Ignatz, you're so cute. A positive OSU blog appears and your face turns seven shades of crimson.

Dash, the Tulsa World already awards mediocrity by letting you post comments.

Pick, the $10 deal may be a gimmick to get the students to go but it is a deal nonetheless. The game won't be decided by James Anderson or the offense (both were outstanding the first time around). Tomorrow's game will depend on whether OSU's D decides to show up or not.

Oh, and I still maintain that if Griffin plays, OU wins. If not, Mizzou takes it.
IamAgenius (4 years ago)
Rigggghhhhhtttt mg, right. Keep telling yourself that.
Dash Riprock (4 years ago)
MexiMike, I am an OSU alum, so my comments come from years of feeling the same about the athletic department.
BobSmith007 (4 years ago)
If the man can recruit and 93.4 percent of the deal is recruiting, then COY.

Let others share the "You Don't Suck as Much as We Thought You Would" award.
The Picker (4 years ago)
The wheels look loose on the Sooner hoop schooner.

One seed to a three seed in two weeks?

We detected something fishy about Pattillo's lack of playing time exactly three weeks ago.

Can't get too attached to juco all-stars can you.
mgsooner (4 years ago)
I think some of you are selling the talent Missouri has short. Anderson's not firing out a bunch of stiffs up there. Missouri has some studs. Not taking anything away from Anderson, of course.

Picker, I think OU needs to go up and beat Mizzou in Columbia to have any chance at a 1 seed. Obviously that's no small task. But if they could do so with Blake it would send a message to the selection committee that OU is pretty darned good when they're at full strength.
Rhymeister (4 years ago)
Nice pick, Cronley!
MexiMike (4 years ago)
Hey Ignatz, how does that crow taste? Delicious? Chump.

Dash, not so much on the bubble now. Put your cheering hat back on sir.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Every Monday morning:

Nice pick Picker.

We should do a recording, save your breath.

Victorious blog to come.
The Picker (4 years ago)
Keyboard, we'll see how overrated Missouri is Wednesday, won't we.

Could it be that Kansas is simply terrific?

You're 60-40 to miss picking the replay correctly.
