Pre-Bedlam chat with Travis Ford

Selected questions and answers with Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford on the eve of the Big 12 Tournament:

--On using less than the entire time allotted during a public practice at the Sprint Center:

“We practiced earlier today, so we just wanted to get our guys a feel for the arena more than anything and get them off their legs -- come in here for maybe 20 or 25 minutes and be sharp, in and out. And the rest of it is mental at this point. Hopefully we accomplished what we needed to today.”

--On facing Bedlam rival Oklahoma in the first round:

“They are going to bring their best shot. There is no question about it. As we have told our team, every team has got motivation this time of year. It could be improving their seed. It could be trying to get off the bubble. It could be this is a new opportunity or a new start. And that’s probably going to be Oklahoma’s theme. This is a new opportunity for them. They have got great players, a great coach. And it’s Bedlam. You can throw records aside and throw everything out the door. It’s going to be a great basketball team tomorrow and both teams are going to bring their best.”

--On what concerns him about the Sooners:

“They are just talented. Tommy Mason-Griffin can control a game by himself. He has won games by himself. Tiny Gallon is a load inside to stop and then you’ve got Cade Davis, who is playing the best basketball of his career and Tony Crocker, who is a senior. They have got very good basketball players, really good basketball players. So there is a lot to be worried about.”

--On whether the Cowboys, who are a No. 8 or No. 9 seed in NCAA Tournament mock brackets, can upgrade their seed with a strong showing in the Big 12 Tournament:

“We haven’t talked about it with our team, but absolutely. There is no question we have talked about that as a coaching staff, but it’s not something we are using with our team. I think we are in the 8-9 (seed range) right now. It all depends on a lot of other teams as well what happens. But if we were able to win a couple of games here, I think there is no question we could improve our seed, definitely.”
