Predictions: Defense is improved, and Cowboys win 33-20

Any attempt at a grand preseason analysis of Oklahoma State's defense would be more guesswork than educated analysis.
First, Mike Gundy usually doesn't allow media to watch practice. There really isn't an opportunity to form an objective opinion. Most of my information comes from the coaches and players.
Second, how can anyone – including defensive coordinator Tim Beckman – really know what to expect from a unit that includes so many first-year junior-college transfers?
My prediction, based on what I hear and on having viewed a few practices in April and early August, is that OSU absolutely will have an improved defense.
In total defense, the Cowboys were 101st nationally last season. This year, they'll be somewhere in the 65-80 range. Returning defenders have a stronger comprehension of Beckman's schemes, and the juco guys add depth.
And so the season opens on Saturday in Seattle. OSU vs. Washington State. The Cougars are rebuilding.
Even away from Stillwater, OSU is decidedly better.
Cowboys prevail 33-20.
