What's wrong with Jacksonville.

Notice the lack of question mark; it's rhetorical.

Nothing is wrong with Jacksonville.

Stick cupid's arrow in Dallas, it's done. Football is not a game if giggling and tickling defenders as Romo does. It's a game of them trying to stomp you. Romo needs to watch game film, not Simpson film. Dallas at Green Bay? Vegas here I come.

Jacksonville would have to win at the Steelers and then at Indy, no simple task, but entertainingly possible.

Where was I when NE's Brady turned punkish?

In decent news on the Cowboy front, Roy Williams made a tackle; of course, it was illegal.

Somebody get a net on old Shula.

His beautiful legacy fades with each goofy stumble down memory lane.

Biggest flop of the year in the NFL? Vince Young. Captain of the all-hype team, maybe some year he'll win a playoff game.

Redskins fan since I was in short pants. Anything bad for the Cowboys is good for me. My son is a Cowboys fan. I have ask him to wear a bag over his head.
A quick note to Sooner fans:West Virginia has talent and pride. Stoops can say all the right things to the team, but if the team takes the Mountaineers as lighty as the fans, it could be Tater Tot Two ."Coachless Team Pulls Upset of The Century" Boise State Coaches on sideline for West Virginia (in street clothes)

Hey Picker, I thought Mack Brown couldn't coach and the only reason he won in 2005 was Vince Young? But now Vince Young is overhyped. So are you saying Mack could coach after all? Which is it?
Epphan (5 years ago)
Huh?

Why would Young's brilliant college career mean he's not an NFL flop...Especially after being hyped so much last year. Heck, if it worked that way Troy Smith would be leading Oakland to the playoffs and Eric Crouch would be looking toward the Hall of Fame.

Hey # 2, Vince Young could have made UNT at Denton a contender for natl champ. He was that good a college qb. Mack couldn't help but win with him.A lot of people made a lot of coin betting against Texas and the spread this year, as usual. If being good in college guaranteed pro success then John Huarte, Terry Baker, Archie Griffin, the recent OU Heisman qbs, ad infinitum would be in Canton or headed there.

It is starting to look like:

1. Mack the Butter Knife was a one hit wonder.

2. Vince Young couldn't throw one through the goal posts from the ten. I saw him throw a pass a couple of weeks ago that skimmed like a rock across water.

Running quarterbacks are out of their league in the pros.

I love Jax. Even though it has to play all the way on the road, somebody better bring some power tools to deal with those guys.

Romo hit a wall of love last year, too.

World Picker aka Fair Weather Fan, Boone's Boy and Jock Wannabe.

You should be fired. Here's why:

I see you 'love Jax'...NOW. Where were you when their power rating was in double digits?
Your hindsight is sooo good I bet you can see your own...well, you probably have your head up there somewhere.

I also note you have scooped everyone except Dennis Miller with the observation that running QB's are largely unsuccessful in the NFL. Wow! You are leading edge, for sure.
News flash, World Picker, Nixon Resigns.

This may be out of your league, but doesn't the drama at WVU with RR leaving and the Admin squabbling with the $$min (Boosters) remind you of the T-Bone Saga at Stillwater??

Note to WR- the Redskins fan since you 'was in short pants' (quite an image, I must say)-Isn't it a little early to be kissing World Pickers ***? The Fiesta Bowl is still 3 weeks away?
BTW: take the bag off your son's head and wear it yourself for a while. At least your son hasn't made a fool of himself posting!

Isn't making a tackle illegal in pro football, because it can cause injury, kind of like telling a boxer not to punch too hard?

You should be fired, World Picker, but you won't. Your boss is lazier than you are.

Dallas had 12 players chosen for the Pro Bowl....Jacksonville had ZERO. I realize one is in the NFC and the other is in the AFC, but I wonder what the line would be if Dallas played Jacksonville next week? The Jags keep getting better, and I think my Cowboys have peaked. I hope not, but it kinda looks that way.

Isn't the Picker a volunteer position? Can you fire a volunteer?

Jax dangerous, but too little too late.
Dallas slumping, but too little not too late for playoffs through conference champ game. Favre in the Superbowl? Will he play against his own kids? Will beat linemen away with his cane!

There are some people who frequent the comment section who should be fired. The picker can stay as long as they can. It all the same.

It must feel great to only have the ability to criticize others' thoughts and not have any of your own. Kind of like never having enough talent to write or act so you become a very bitter and resenting critic. Its pretty pathetic to say the least but if anxiously waiting for an opinion (not a fact, double underlined) column to be posted so that you can rip it to shreds (regardless what it has to do with and even if you agree with the points made) helps you get through those lonely, loney nights--i cannot stress how lonely you really portray yourself, then by all means continue your pathetic life.

Oh, man! I wish the World would print these comments. In all seriousness, everyone is simply hilarious. Author! Author! This is truly funny stuff. Can you fire a volunteer? Farve playing against his own kids! Oh, that just slayed me. Scooped everyone but Dennis Miller. LOL! I am spewing my beverage! Short pants - oh, my side, my side. Roy Williams makes a tackle and it is illegal. Uncle! Uncle! Oh, if only the Letters to the Editor were this good. I stand and applaud.
Greg (5 years ago)
The Picker in not a volunteer. He gets paid big bucks but not for his picks against the spread or whatever (he would probably starve if that were the case). He gets paid for his observations on the big money world or pro and college football.

Two of my favorites:
Neil Everett yells at us and Burger King slams Terrell Owens down at midfield.

He is not a homer for any one team as he has skewered all local teams at one time or another, especially when the deserved it.

stan (5 years ago)
Vince Young and Reggie Bush are on the all-hype team at this time. Young is not your typical NFL quarterback. Jeff Fisher is thinking of initiating the wishbone offense next year to showcase his quarterback's many running talents. Just don't make him throw the ball.

Good grief. I go away for a few days and this board falls into non-sequiters and double postings.

Yeah, WP is paid 'for his observations on the big money world [of] pro and college football.'
I rest my case. He should be fired.

His 'observations' are old and tiresome cheap shots at a few chosen targets, over and over again.

His 'observations' have more empty spaces than a Scrabble Board before the tiles are drawn. Plus, they are soooo old grade school.

His insight into sports consists of jumping on a hot team's bandwagon with only two games left to play. Not much chance of being caught downwind doing that.

He should be fired. But, not to worry, he won't. At the slightest hint of trouble, T-Bone will swoop down from Poke Haven and buy the paper for him. Happy ending.

Ps to Mike: Your style is faintly familiar. Either you ARE WP, or you aspire to be him.
Either way, double posting won't cure you.

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
