Purple rain, indeed

It's typical of the take-things-for-granted media to complain about free grub, but I will do it nonetheless.
The lunch entree at the Colonial golf tournament Sunday was purple ham -- chunks of ham swimming in some kind of berry sauce.
Huckleberry. Blueberry. Zorkaberry. Who knows?
Psychologically, it's hard for carnivores to eat things that are purple or blue. And if ham was meant to be purple, Porky Pig would have played for the Vikings.
Regardless of the above, and regardless of continued rain storms, the Colonial is a well-run golf tournament and organizers do a first class job of making it user-friendly.
Given a choice between the two D/FW PGA Tour events, I'll take the Colonial over the Byron Nelson.
The Byron Nelson was played at two courses -- that's a breeding ground for aggravation -- and the Colonial is all at one place, just like a golf tournament is supposed to be.
Starting next year, the Byron Nelson will be held exclusively at one course and that's a big step in the right direction.
Both D/FW events are going to have to work to get back on a pedestal. Many of the world's top players opted to skip the tournaments. Too bad. The Colonial and Byron Nelson deserve better.
My only gripe with the Colonial is that Prince was perhaps in charge of the lunch menu Sunday.
