Question for Gundy: Does OSU look like the No. 8 team in college football?

Oklahoma State was No. 8 in the USA Today preseason coaches’ poll released last week. Following the Tuesday practice at Boone Pickens Stadium, coach Mike Gundy was asked whether the Cowboys look like a No. 8 type of team.

“Not really. I see an offense that is capable of scoring and doing it fast,” he said. “There are still some things they have to work through. And a defense that is young to some point, but I like their effort.

“The No. 8 team in the country is a pretty good team. I don’t think we’re at that level yet, but I like where we are at this point.”

The first of two preseason scrimmages is set for Saturday and is closed to the public.

Brandon Weeden and the offense -- in particular, the offensive line -- look deserving of a Top 10 ranking. Defensively, end Jamie Blatnick and star linebacker Shaun Lewis have been excellent. The secondary has been solid. Whether OSU develops into a legitimate No. 8 team depends on the development of inexperienced tackles and linebackers.
