The Oklahoma City Thunder announced at 8:23 a.m. Saturday that it was parting ways with head coach P.J. Carlesimo and assistant coach Paul Westhead.
Granted, the Thunder appears to be the NBA's worst team, but it seems like Carlesimo's stay in Oklahoma City was all too brief.
Hopefully, Carlesimo got a heads-up this way back in preseason and didn't buy a house in OKC.
I don't know what the expectation level should be for the Thunder, but I am reminded of what a University of Tulsa assistant football coach said after being relieved of his duties back when the Golden Hurricane program was at a talent disadvantage. He said you can't make chicken salad out of the stuff that chicken farmers dump in the Illinois River, or something along those lines.
It's easier to hold a college football coach accountable for the talent level because coaches have to recruit players. It's hard to hold an NBA coach accountable for the talent level because he doesn't do the recruiting.
