Here's an update of our favorite 100 things on the radio.

All unaccounted for numbers are filled by various musical outlets.

1. Morning Sports Animal out of Oklahoma City.
This is a rare show that has a sense of humor and features the two best characters on the radio, the dead Charleton Heston picking football winners, and protypical OU fan, Uncle.

Every once in a while it gets serious and carries on the good fight against nutso parents and crazed high school football programs.

Sometimes it thinks covered body parts are more humorous than is actually the case. But the show is funny. Funny matters.

8. Coach Pat. Former OSU coach Jones has a lot to say.

14. John Brooks. Back class.

22. TU game announcer Bruce Howard. Would be good ref.

33. The two Al's, Eschbach and Big Al. Hearts in right places.

41. Dean-o. Loves his Sooners.

42. Hokum, Channel 6. Loves his Cowboys.

81. Squeaky, the OSU play by play announcer. Needs new gimmick.

82. Traber. Concerned the WNBA team might rough up our image.

83. Most newspaper people. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk.

100. Bab Borry, OU play by play man.

I hear Dean and Eschback like to felch.

Eschbach is sooooooooo hard to listen to.  Is he stuttering John's dad?  And Traber just wants to fight everyone.  The bonus for listening is you get to hear them promote car lots and casinos after EVERY break on EVERY show.  I don't know how they're so popular.  OKC mentality I guess.

What about 1430 The Buzz? That show is terrible, unless you like NASCAR, Pro Wrestling and MMA. Plank could be one of if not the worst sports radio personalities in the region. Does the guy ever have an original thought?

Seriously Art? The Big SHow is a HUGE breath of fresh air compared to the Sports Animal. I don't know when you listen but I always hear them talking OU/OSU football...without commercial breaks every 3 minutes.

I'd rather listen to them than Al, Traber, and Trammel any day of the week on my drive home from work.

This is "ARE" year?

Pop and Plank may not be as polished as some or make the big bucks but they're easier to listen to than those other guys.  I do like Big Al but not enough to have to listen to Pat Jones.  He's almost as bad as Eschbach.

Classic Aggie: 'this is ARE year'...nice. Obviously a graduate of 0 state.

For me, Traber is the most difficult one for me to listen to. His voice is too whiney. I favor the Buzz slightly over the Sports Animal.

Re #100: Two games ago Bob called Coach Murv "Mr. Negativity" on the air. The silence was deafening. Murv is best thing about the radio coverage of OU games. They have to have him to balance out Bob's idiocy. It has become kind of humorous, though. I can't imagine what games (we watch TV while listening to the radio; go figure) would be like without Bob to make fun of. Poor guy.

Marguerite (3 years ago)
Sorry, I mean Merv. I'm as bad as Bob.
MexiMike (3 years ago)
Yeah Dcood, I'm sure a sooner has never made a spelling error...ever. Get over yourself.

Steff, in some ways I think they are more polished. It seems like every day Al is stuttering his way through a sentence, Trammel/Blevins are fighting a bad cell phone connection, and Traber never has his stats right, if he even has them at all.

Plus, how many times does someone make a point and then there is nothing but silence for 2 to 3 seconds because no one knows what to say next?
The Picker (3 years ago)
Many of those characters think they get listened to because people like them or like what they say.

But I listen to them some one, because there's nothing else on, and two, they're fascinatingly bad, like Jon and Kate.

It should be noted somewhere that people who show up on ratings because they like to listen to freaks don't buy into the advertising.

mgsooner (3 years ago)
When will you take to the airwaves picker? Some of your co-workers have already done it. By the way, strangely I didn't see any of them mentioned in your article...
dcood (3 years ago)
No argument here on those egomaniacs on the sports animal. The worst thing is how they do absolutely no homework for their job, like even read the local sports page, tough duty I know. Traber is insufferable but Blevins may be the worst with his smug, name dropping OU insider crap. I promise Stoops cant stand his preppy tail and the Dream acts like they are best friends.
hootie (3 years ago)
Pick you left off "You make the call" off of the bad list.  It is even worse tan Deano's Blitz.
The Picker (3 years ago)
Hootie, that make the call show is like Wayne's World, isn't it.  I was mostly looking at radio.  .

Out Pick The Picker

The Picker began entertaining – and infuriating – sports fans in 1993. Each week during football season, he writes about his picks of college and NFL games in his Thursday Sports column. He's never afraid of sharing his opinions about the game and the personalities who play it. Readers have a chance to go against him each season in the Outpick the Picker contest. He welcomes the competition.
