What's the worst thing in sports?
Fixing.
What's almost as bad as fixing?
Quitting.
Meet the Colts.
Indianapolis quit trying versus the below average Jets.
Talk about some gamblers who were probably scared straight.
While on the subject of unpleasantries, for a Sunday NFL TV game, Channel 6 locally, the CBS affiliate, gave us New England-Jacksonville instead of the Steelers-Baltimore!
Seriously.
Rumor has it that the local CBS affiliate, KOTV, depends heavily on its bigger OKC parent. The other night, the entire sports show came from OKC! Recent snow coverage seemed to talk almost as much about OKC as Tulsa!
The average viewer would think that somebody, somewhere, CHOSE to put on the New England debacle instead of the best game of the week, Steelers-Ravens.
Up until now, nobody in this city has been that much out of it.
Now for something good.
We have mentioned that according to our count, there is one thing worth listening to on in-state sports talk radio -- the morning Animal business out of OKC.
Now there is something else of quality -- Monday morning when former TU and pro football player Jerry Ostrowski shares time after the OKC bit.
This week Ostrowski made more great points, and with more wit and humor and understanding, than the rest of the local characters combined, one point being that after ten years, a college coach should go ahead and try somewhere else for everybody's sake; another being that OU needed to land more in-state players of quality, guys who appreciated the Sooner tradition.
A final note. OU's big pre-Sun Bowl celebration included some bowling. Really. Against Stanford. Bowling-bowling. At pins. With rented shoes.
Let's split.

I just thought I'd comment so you don't feel bad since nobody really cares about these subjects. Pssst. Dan Patrick in the morning.

"Let's split?"
Really, Pick?
To think that I thought Jenni Carlson had the worst puns among Oklahoma writers...

Pick,
The goal is to win the Super Bowl, not some meaningless game after you have wrapped up home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Colts did the right thing. It's better to give your starters some rest so they can get ready for the playoffs. Why risk injury when you already have everything clinched?

I absolutely believe the Colts screwed their fans and the football public by giving that game away to the Jets. That being said, if you had action on that game, you deserve to lose. Considering the fact that Caldwell was non committal all week on whether he would play his starters or not, a betting man would have to stay away from that game.

Smart move by the Colts. This was no more important than a pre-season game. Why risk an injury to a key player going into the playoffs?

So gambler's scared straight, I doubt that. If you happened to notice, the line on the game was 3. That ought to tell you that someone, other than the Colts coaching staff, knew what the game plan was Sunday.
As for the Animal radio show, that is strictly a matter of opinion. Personally, I like Plank, Pop, and Don King and their afternoon show on The Buzz. I suppose if I liked axx kissing homers, then the Animal would be more appealing. Jerry O was on that one too, for a while, and yes, I agree his dry humor is good. Oh, OU won, so maybe bowling will become the fare of choice, rather than watching "Remember the Titans" ten times over.
