THE REQUEST line is open.

Question: Why aren't referees available for interviews?

Answer: Because some of them are so bad at what they do.

Q: We love your impressions. Would you please do a new one?

A: This is any of the Friday night high school reports on one of the local TV stations.

"Let's roll the highlights of the Glenpool game.

"There goes number 24 around left end. Wait. That says Bixby on the uniform.

"There's a shot from the chopper of a half-empty stadium.

"Here's an update on the Jenks game. It's seventeen to fourteen sometime in the second half.

"Who's that? Which ones are they? We seem to be having technical trouble. That looks like Stillwater's colors. Stop the tape. Roll the sound. Dim the lights.

Does anybody know what's going on here?"

Didn't do too well on your picks the last couple of weeks, did you? Looks like the economy isn't the only thing that's fallen on hard times.
Cheerio, mate.

I agree, Picker...these local high school football shows need to get their act together...I want to hear about ALL the area schools and not just a few...and please, know the scores! I also wondered...why doesn't KJRH have a high school football show on Friday nights? Also...KTUL's guy has all weekend to get his stuff together...we want high school football showcased! These are our kids playing here, not the college or NFL guys! We want pictures, stories, correct information, insight, etc.

High School Fan, You sure want a lot. Seriously, what station's going to devote that kind of attention to high school? Aside from people who know the players and students at these schools, most people don't care about high school football at all. And ALL the area schools? Do you know how long that would take, not to mention how boring it would be?

It's always good to have royalty on hand.
Week before last, 10-6.
True, last week had an odor to it.
As to high school football coverage, aren't most of the people who care a lot at the games?

My, my, Picker. Humility becomes you. You should try it more often.

Mr. Picker:
I am a TU fan but don't necessarily disagree with your pick of OSU by 8 over TU on a neutral field. I do, however, disagree with your reasoning. While OSU's receivers certainly are very impressive, TU also has incredible receivers. Slick Shelly, Brennan Marion, Trae Johnson, Charles Clay, Damarus Johnson, etc. Phil Forde picked TU's receivers as the 4th best in the Country. Because they are so deep, the individual statistics aren't as impressive. Nevertheless, they can play with anyone ... including OSU's fine receivers. And they have the added benefit of the incredible depth at that position.

Again, I don't necessarily disagree with your pick of OSU by 8, but I do with your reasoning.

Barrister, a Duke and a Cyko on one page.

It's no wonder we're read by our guys at the Baghdad airport, among other places.

That OSU minus 8 was a guess at what a Vegas point spread would be now at a neutral field, not a pick. Were the game set up at TU versus OSU by 8, that would probably attract action on both sides.

Not sure who I would take. Which makes it a decent number.

Rubbin Deass is one of the worst sportscasters the Tulsa area has ever seen. I'm surprised the Picker hasn't gone after this guy more. This no talent clown hasn't improved since KTUL put him on the air. He still continues to announce scores backwards, mispronounce names and generally make an a$$ of himself night in and night out.

Picker...I show you posting a 2-5-1 record yesterday. This is holding pretty steady from your first couple of weeks with the college game. Can we look forward to an improvement or shall we just start booking the opposite way that you pick 'em? And don't give me that tired old 'hey...try picking them before they play' mantra.

Re: I Hate Ruben

I don't think it's very nice of John Holcomb and that little Scott guy to write that about their competition. And to create a screen name just for that purpose shows that those guys have enough time on their hands to be covering even more high school football.

Picker rags on the local sports talk radio shows and the local TV sports guys, yet he neglects to call out his co-workers at the fish wrap...err...World. Methinks he's jealous because he has both the face and voice for writing. What's really funny is that he constantly badgers guys like Eschbach, Blevins, Traber, Holcomb, etc., yet maintains an aire of anonymity. At least they're willing to show thier mugs and spout their sometimes comical opinions all while having the intestinal fortitude to come face-to-face with their audiences.

Picker's high school football coverage is the worst of all - it's non-existent. When was the last time YOU contributed something worthwhile to the World's coverage of high school football???

And another thing...to the parents whining about not having little Johnny's touchdown run or pass or tackle not announced on the local sports show...you were there! Why is it important to have it shown on TV? If you were there, why are you so concerned with it being replayed on shabby highlight shows? It doesn't matter. You saw it, they did it, and that's all you should be concerned with.

Okay, the count for Sunday is in and our dear Picker got picked over brutally. His record on the pro game, before Monday night, is a woeful 1-4-1. Combined with the 3-5-1 count on college football, he posted a 4-9-2 record this past weekend. What's that percentage? Looks like around 31%. Hang on to that sense of humor, guy...you're going to need it.

Cyco;
Who cares about high school football?
The entire state of Texas; where most of the state of Oklahoma's good college football players come from.

World Picker:
And what is with your sarcastic remark about those brave folks at the Baghdad Airport?
Maybe you would like to shed your anonymity so when those heroes return they could look you up and visit you in person.
You should be fired for that remark alone.
cyco myko (4 years ago)
Nit, Yes, Texas cares about high school football. We, however, are not in Texas. I'm glad that we take their players, but I don't care what they did in high school. I don't care what the kids in this state do in high school either. Lots of players are good in high school- it doesn't mean they're going to do anything in college. I want LESS high school coverage. All the way down to none.
