Guess I'll lead this one off. You know picker, I always wonder where you witty OU remarks come from. Given your past (OU baseball player), I always assumed you were a Sooner fan. Thus, your pessimistic attitude is a way of reverse psychology. You know...if Florida wins and covers, you told us so. If OU wins, then great. It also makes sense for you to be tougher on OU than the other schools so as not to appear as a homer, which all readers of this blog know you deteste. Just observations...

I don't think Florida -3 is a lock. I'd prolly pass the game. If you are gonna fly to Vegas and put the shirt on your back on a game, then put it on the Ravens over my Steelers this weekend. And how about the Florida offensive coordinator getting hired at Miss. St.? Will OU keep all its coaches thru the bowl season? I know that the Fla. coach will stay for the BCS title game, but it'a a distraction.

We're taking up a collection, primarily from long-time Sooner fans and alumns, offering to pay Venables' way to any interview he can scrape up. That's one coach I think we can do without on the sidelines at a BCS bowl.

Careful what you wish for WASMI...you might get it. Stoops was a defensive coordinator, so he deserves just as much of the credit/blame for any defensive or special teams lapses. I think the staff is very good, including coach V. Oklahoma's defense has been superb at taking away the football. The offense has been so explosive that the defense sees more possessions than normal. OU fans are never happy. This one is though. 12-1...three straight Big 12 titles...Stoops has owned the Big 12...QB's in NY more often than not...BCS bowls semingly every year. What's not to like? You ready to rehire John Blake or Smellyburger?? Be happy...

Jeremy, good point on the Picker's pessimism. I used to think that Nit Picker was the Picker's alter ego but now I am pretty sure Picker is Nit's alter ego.

Picker, why should Texas harbor any violent ill will towards Oklahoma? It's not like OU stole the Big 12...it was awarded to them. Texas may have a reason to be ticked off but their anger should be directed at the football gods.

Greg:

You just paid World Picker a tremendous compliment.

You are so right about Texas not harboring ill will toward OU. They should regret losing to Tech and ought to harbor some ill will toward Michael Crabtree or their own safety covering him. Or their own defensive coordinator.

The real fly in that ointment is comments made by network talking heads, reporters, sportscasters, and some coaches, who make no distinction between the "bad" rule and the team that was chosen to represent the Big 12 South via that rule.
Add comments such as those made by members of the media like World Picker - to a much smaller audience of course- and before long perception becomes reality and OU is the villian. "Its a crime" OU was chosen over Texas. "Someone call the cops", etc.

Throw in World Picker's habit of trying to belittle anyone that disagrees with him - usually labelling them as OU "homers" - and it becomes a free for all OU hate session.

The lack of objectivity on the part of some media, like ESPN (who has a huge financial interest at stake)and World Picker (who has an interest in generating web hits) is inexcusable regardless of the target of their wrath.

It is possible to generate genuine debate among sports fans.
However, World Picker's hateful, sarcastic and belittling style of putting down OU and TU sports programs and their fans has become a bit tiresome.
His "column/blog" contains very little original or even genuinely funny or clever material any more. He relies more and more on the nasty put down to fill his space.
Moreover, his anonymity appears to give him the false courage to say things he would likely never say if he had to go out among those "homers" and others he belittles all the time.
Always taking the negative side of something is like a broken clock: you will be right on at least two occasions...but you are wrong the vast majority of the time and most folks get tired of looking at you.
