IRVING, Texas – For Oklahoma State fans, the Under Armour All-America high school football game qualifies as appointment viewing.
At some point during the national all-star game, set for 10 a.m. Saturday and televised by ESPN, Darius White of Fort Worth's Dunbar High School will announce his college destination.
Why is White's announcement important? Because he is rated by Scout.com as a five-star prospect and the nation's No. 3 wide receiver recruit, and because he may be headed to Oklahoma State.
ESPN reports that the 6-foot-4, 210-pound White has settled on a list of five finalists: Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Florida and LSU. Sources indicate that it's a shorter list that includes only OSU and LSU, and some of those sources seem convinced that White – who averaged 22.2 yards per reception during the 2009 season – will be a Cowboy.
White, accompanied by his mother and two younger brothers, recently made an official visit to the OSU campus. Sources reported that both White and his mother were pleased with the results of the trip.
During the Under Armour telecast, pay attention also to the announcement of Toney Hurd Jr. of Marshall High School in the Houston area. Rated by Scout.com as the nation's No. 32 cornerback prospect, Hurd reportedly has rescinded his Notre Dame commitment and now views OSU, Oregon, California, Texas A&M and Auburn as possible destinations.
OSU's 2010 commitment list currently is ranked 10th nationally by Scout.com. Verbal commitments are non-binding. Recruits may sign national letters of intent in February.
