Remember App State when Scheduling

Michigan wasn't the only school that got knocked off by a virtual unknown.
Kent State beat Iowa State. North Carolina State lost at home. Arkansas State lost by just one touchdown at Texas.
A year ago, Montana State won at Colorado.
It is happening more and more. You bring in what you think is a team that will take your big check and big beating and go home happy.
More and more these days they aren't taking any beating.
That is the worry for Oklahoma State this week. Florida Atlantic is among those schools on the rise that may be more headache than you bargained for.
The reason is simple. Fewer scholarships have leveled out some of the talent.
Sure, big schools in the big conferences still get the majority of talent. However, with more good players out there, and fewer spots at all the schools, means just about everyone has talent.
The difference is usually depth. The big schools have more good players.
But almost every school has a number of good players.
So, don't underestimate anyone.
Sure, occasionally, there's a team out there that shouldn't be on the field with a major college football team. North Texas may be that team.
Still, don't overlook anyone is the mantra these days.

John - I totally agree with you on this subject! However, it should be pointed out that this upset was down right monumental. You know that I know a lot of OU alums (basically my entire extended family either graduated from TU or OU...with a couple of OSU exceptions), and I got quite a few calls this weekend from my elated OU relatives claiming that the Sooners were finally "off the hook". Okay, maybe the Boise State upset of OU will now leave the top of mind of most college football fans, but it should absolutely be noted that in no way, shape or form is Boise State's defeat of OU in the same stratosphere of Appalachian State's upset of Michigan. Boise State was a legitimate football team with quite a bit of talent and was undefeated and ranked in the top 10 of Division 1. If OU and Boise State could play that Fiesta Bowl in the exact same situation and setting 10 times, I believe Boise could win 3 or 4 of them. In contrast, if it were possible for App State to play Michigan 999 more times in that exact same setting, in the Big House, I believe Michigan would win 998 of them, if not all 999. My point is obvious, that it the one time out of 1,000 that App State was going to beat Michigan in front of 110,000 people. All that being said, your point is well taken and anybody can beat anybody on a given day...but this App St thing was extremely unusual.
