You know you're getting old when it is cheaper to get the annual instead of the lifetime membership.
I went to my class reunion on Saturday night, 35 years since Perry High School sent about 100 of us out into the world.
At this stage in life, we figured an annual membership in the Perry High School alumni association was a better deal than the lifetime cost.
It is always interesting to go to high school reunions.
I''ve only been to two. In the past, the class reunions were almost always held during the Cherokee Strip Celebration in Perry (the Saturday closest to Sept. 16).
Unfortunately for me, that's a college football Saturday. Sports writers spend Saturdays in the fall at football stadiums not the Noble County Fair.
But I was able to go to the 20th reunion and now the 35th.
I always hear folks tell me how stressful it is to go to a reunion.
Not for me. I love seeing folks I grew up with and finding out how things are going for them. What's great is that so many of my classmates are happy and loved showing me pictures of not only their kids but grandkids, too.
I showed them pictures of my dog jumping into Grand Lake.
My wife grew up in St. Louis and her graduating class had 900 folks.
My entire high school had less than 300.
To say our class reunions are different is an understatement.
Growing up in a small town really is a blessing. Fun things like a party at the pond.
There are times when going to a school with a 1,000 kids in a class might be blast.
But for a bunch of kids who thought going to the big city (Stillwater) was a huge deal, coming home was a joy.
But at age 53, I think I'll stick to the annual membership.

I want to know how you pulled off getting the class of '72 to change your reunion from the "Celebration Weekend?"

I've got the 20 coming up and getting a block of tee times on the Perry Municipal Nine is impossible that weekend!
